'True Blood' aces GLAAD's TV report card, ABC nabs top spot for networks
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) released its "Where We Are On TV" report, an annual review of gay representation on scripted television shows, on Tuesday (Sept. 28).
The report names HBO's "True Blood" as its top show and gave ABC the No. 1 spot once again among its broadcast brethren.
ABC tops the list for broadcast networks with several LGBT characters in regular roles on "Modern Family," "Grey's Anatomy," "Brothers & Sisters" and their new show, "Happy Endings." The network had the highest amount and percentage across the board for scripted shows in the current season: 11 lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) characters out of 152 series regulars or 7.2% total.
Here's how the rest fared:
2.) FOX with five gay characters out of 100 or 5%
3.) The CW with three gay characters out of 67 or 4.5%
4.) NBC with three gay characters out of 143 or 2.1% -- the only network that declined in LGBT representation from last year
5.) CBS with one gay character out of 125 or 0.8% holds on to its last place position from last year. Way to go, CBS!
HBO rules the gay scene for cable with 10 LGBT characters overall -- six of those appear on its hit show, "True Blood." The vampy show also tops the list for most LGBT characters on both cable and broadcast networks.
ABC Family and Showtime both have seven LGBT characters while SYFY has four. TNT, FX, Starz and Teen Nick tie for the next position with three each.
While GLAAD's study shows a "significant increase" in LGBT representation in the current season, it also shows that there are no transgender or Black LGBT characters on the major broadcast networks.
That basically proves what we already know: TV could use more Lafayettes!

Exactly why I watch CBS the most!
I'm truly shocked True Blood got top marks. XD Except not. Love that show. Fitting that it's so very camp.

Sorry, GLADD you can't have everything you want. Here's hoping for mid-season.
Ummm....is anyone else surprised that True Blood scored such high marks? The producers/writers pretty much traded in any sense of a coherent storyline and decent writing simply for gay shock scenes and story arcs.
I believe that GLADD doesn't give a s#$t about how good a character is fleshed out as long as he/she is gay.
Ha...and people wonder why Lone Star was axed. Not even homosexuality. Not enough old washed up stars dancing.
Exactly why I don't watch CBS, except for Amazing Race, Survivor & Big Brother. Those shows have gay representation usually every cycle.
Of course with shows like NCIS Omaha, CSI Boise, and 100 year old Tom Selleck in Blue Bloods, you would think I would watch it more.
