'The League' creators work from the 'Big Board of Bad Ideas'
"The League" premiered its second season Thursday (Sept. 16) on FX. The second season will let creators Jeff Schaeffer and Jackie Marcus Schaeffer do so much more because they have 13 episodes and a better budget. "When Jeff and I first pitched the show, we knew FX wasn't going to give us the budget to do a Vegas draft in year one, but we knew we wanted to do it for year two," says Jackie, of the season premiere.
The guys take off for Las Vegas for their fantasy draft and wind up hanging out with real-life NFL player Chad Ochocinco. The Las Vegas draft was just one of many "bad ideas."
"We have what we call the 'Big Board of Bad Ideas,'" says Jeff. "All these ideas keep piling on and piling and there's another dry erase board where we try to turn these ideas into a show."
A lot of these bad ideas will be realized in the second season, which got a full 13-episode order (as opposed to the first season, which only had six episodes).
"You're going to see their world expand because we have 13 episodes to play with," Jackie tells us. "We're going to go back to a reunion also, so you're going to be able to meet these guys' friends."
"The League" airs Thursday nights at 10:30 p.m. ET on FX.
