'Supernatural' Sneak Peek: Jensen Ackles' directorial debut shines a light on Bobby
"Supernatural" fans have learned a few secrets about Bobby (Jim Beaver) over the years, but while we get to see Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) do everything from brush their teeth to bicker over who smells worse, Bobby's day-to-day routine remains a mystery. What exactly does he do when he's not saving Sam and Dean from a scrape or doing their research for them?
In Ackles' directorial debut, Oct. 15th's "Weekend at Bobby's," we'll discover a bit more about the man beneath the trucker hat. When Bobby discovers that his eternal soul still belongs to the demon Crowley (Mark Sheppard), he'll turn the tables and ask Sam and Dean for their help for a change.
Luckily, they'll discover a secret of Crowley's that might just help them out. The episode marks the return of Bobby's frenemy Rufus (Steven Williams) and Kim Rhodes as Sheriff Mills.
Though the episode doesn't air for two weeks, we've got some sneak preview pics just to up the anticipation a little bit. How do you think Ackles will do as a director? The actors who worked with him had nothing but good things to say. Are you looking forward to Crowley's return?

I like Bobby and will be interested in what his life is like when he isn't involved in saving the Winchesters - I would rather see Ackles in front of the camera than behind it because I think he is a great actor but I think he is wise to have a Plan B - that new wife of his looks high maintenance and doesn't appear to be very talented so he's smart to prepare for the day when Supernatural ends but her shopping sprees don't.
I'm mostly looking forward to see the Winchester boys hunting together, I gather that is what will happen by the looks of the previews, but other than that yes it's a pleasure to see Jim Beaver and Sam Sheppard. They're rightfully deserve a spotlight in the show a lot more than the new additions.

Also Jensen is just the typical actor turned into something for the credit. Sad. To bad his big movie acting skills aren't as powerful as his TV ones.
Also no duh whose going to complain about him directing them. It's just makes me angry that a veteran actor like Jim has to suck up to a whipper snappper like Jensen.
I would love to find out why Bobby never has anyone visit for parts to any old cars. Does he have an online buiness to pay for his bills?
Also good to see the writers are slowing bring Dean back into the fold with little things such as have him return to fast food.
Really?? Typical actor trying to get credit...the man has talent and is trying to expand his knowledge..don't hate!
Most anxious to learn more about Bobby. I'm excited for Jensen & his directorial debut. I just know he'll do a great job. He spent a lot of time preparing for this. Jim Beaver had nothing but great things to say about him and I trust Jim
I'm sick of the way this show treats Jim Beaver. 5 years and he's not a regular? That's ageist and Kripke, Sera, WB and CW should be ashamed. As for Jensen Directing, I agree with the commenter above who says Jim shouldn't have to answer to Jensen. Jensen gets more credit than he deserves for this role and Jim has had many award-worthy roles but god forbid they make him a regular because it's the CW. If this show was on any other network he'd be a regular.
Okay, gang, let's get a few things straight.
First, I'm not a regular because I don't want to move myself and my daughter to Vancouver. I prefer to freelance and live in L.A. Supernatural and the CW offered to make me a regular and I chose not to accept the offer. Sure, if they threw a gargantuan salary increase at me, it might make it worthwhile, but even then I would hesitate.
Second: To "Enjoy TV" -- That's a repugnant thing to say about a woman you don't know. I DO know Jensen's wife, and I am appalled that you would say something so malicious, even under a pseudonym. Shame.
Third: To "Colin" -- Jensen Ackles is one of the best prepared, thoughtful, well-organized, and technically adept directors I've ever had the honor to work with. I've watched him over five years, studying the directors of our show, learning every detail, preparing meticulously for the day when he could expand his artistic horizons. I told him at the end of his directorial debut that I had never felt so secure or protected with a director. I've been doing this job for nearly 40 years and I have never had the courage to attempt directing anything like this. I applaud him, both for his willingness to do it right and for the skill and artistry and generosity with which he did it. I look forward to having him direct me again. And shame on anyone who denigrates the work he did--especially without even seeing it.
Can we please approach this show with a little more generosity of spirit? It would make my occasional visits to these forums ever so much more pleasant. And who knows, you might feel a little happier yourselves.
Jim Beaver
