'Supernatural': Who are you, and what have you done with Sam Winchester?
Season 6 of "Supernatural" premiered tonight with a familiar monster playing by a new rulebook. In "Exile on Main Street", an encounter with a Djinn -- which fans will remember from season 2 -- reunites Dean (Jensen Ackles) with his brother, Sam (Jared Padalecki), who Dean has thought was dead for a year. It's certainly been an interesting year for Dean. He admits that after Sam's death he was overcome by grief. "I drank too much, I had nightmares," he says. Now, he's holding down a job while living happily with his girlfriend Lisa and her son Ben, while heading out for the occasional beer or poker game with his new buddy Sid. It seems like he's living the normal life that Sam envisioned for him when he made Dean promise to quit hunting.
Speaking of Sam -- when he saves Dean from the Djinn, Sam seems uncharacteristically cavalier about the year he's spent without his brother. As Jared Padalecki teased this summer, Sam has a new attitude and a new outlook. Did he come back from the dead different... again?
Sam's cockier demeanor kind of freaks us out, but we're looking forward to finding out more about how his year on the road brought him to where he is now. Additionally, we do like Dean's domestic side. His time with Lisa has made for some interesting character development, and the opening montage was beautifully done.
His not-so-blissful ignorance could only last so long. Dean is shocked to discover that Sam is alive and has spent the year hunting with their mother's long-lost (and, in some cases, long-dead) family members. It doesn't seem as though the Campbells are entirely trustworthy, though.
We're interested to hear your thoughts on the premiere, Zappers. Sound off in the comments below! What are your thoughts on Dean's new family? Do you like Sam's new attitude? What are the Campbells up to? Why were these Djinns so different from the ones we met three years ago? Do you think Dean made the right decision to stay with Lisa? Are your Season 6 wishes coming true?
And where were those shirtless chin-ups?

I have to say I was very nervous about the season premiere, but it didn't turn out too bad in the end. I was pleasantly surprised that I liked Dean's character development. It was one of my main fears coming into the episode that they would have ruined the character, but Jensen did a really good job with the continuity and it really seems plausible for Dean to be the way he is now. Sam on the other hand is a different matter. I agree with you in that he seems a lot cockier than our usual lovable Sam, and I'm really not liking it. So he spent what, a few days in the pit, which would amount to maybe a couple of months in Hell time. Dean spend FORTY YEARS there and it didn't really change him all that much. I don't care how much worse they say it was for Sam because he was in Lucifer's cage (and how much worse could it have really been? c'mon hell is hell), it still doesn't make sense that Sam would come back a completely different person and Dean wouldn't.
Chrissy, you're forgetting that Sam was under Dean's thumb for a long time, and now he's been hunting for a year without Dean. To me, it makes sense like he would be a little cockier, and less beholden to Dean.

Maybe I am just blinded by my love/down right obsession with this show but it was everything I hoped it would be. I barely breathed through the entire episode I was on such tenderhooks.
The opening montage certainly tugged at the heart strings, and I thought Jensen did a fabulous job, as he always does, with Dean. I'm also interested to see where this new Sammy goes...because he kind of gave me the heebeejeebees!
I guess, if anything, the only thing I wasn't too fussed about was the Campbell cousins, but that may change in time.
I hated the ending, i'm sorry Dean but no, who the hell leaves his brother who has always been his priority and stays playing golf with his normal family. I can't say I liked this version of Dean, watered down and boring and Sam was too harsh at points. Still Sam but i like the fact Sam is the puppydog why do they need to try and ruin that.
Also the pull ups weren't even there to save me so I am sad. Very sad.
I love supernatural, but I see this turning into the Sam show. Dean has been the most interesting part of the show for me. I hope they keep him at the center of the show.
dee dee, it's funny you say it will be the Sam show when I was thinking last night was ALL about Dean, with barely a mention of Sam.
i think lucifer is still in sammy they have the same mannerisms like last year seeriously .think about these family members came out of no where .... and grandpa did as well and bobby knew for a year and he didnt tell dean y would he do that i mean bobby been the only father figure they have ... i think it has to do with that demon crowley that bobby suppose to what ever crowley says remember his soul is his... ummm and wheres the brother they both fell in to the black hole.. and i feel dean should hit brother in the episode because dean seems so fragile now.. he should tested more because angels are not neglible by holy water and silver only by an archangel sword hello
I want more cas/Misha! I loved the new Sam, It felt like Sam was more confident rather than cocky. It would be cool to see more characters resurrected in this season or brought back for an episode like John Winchester young & old (I loved young John as Michael), Ellen & JO, Ash, Meg, Uriel, Aleister. Im also excited to see some new characters demons/angels. Liked how they changed the Djinn up. Its like Sam & Dean switched personas. I can handle Sam but Dean umm its weird to see Dean in the "normal" life, im just not use to it. I cant wait to see how this season plays out!!
I have been a huge Supernatural fan since the very beginning. That said, I thought last night's premiere episode sucked. It lacked the series trademark wit, creepiness, and heart. The introduction of The Campbells never became the least bit interesting or intriguing.
Sam might as well be an entirely new character because he holds no similarity to the one we've grown to love over the years . The "Is he good or is he bad" premise pretty much got old by the end of Season 4. Why stick with that tired storyline? By the end of the episode I was actually hoping Dean would give up hunting forever.
With the show moving to a new night with new showrunners, SPN needed to hit one out of the park with this 1st ep. We needed to be convinced the show was still in good hands and that it was worth following to a new night. All I was left with was the thought that maybe it should have ended with Season 5. I'll hang in there for the next few weeks though. I still have some hope.
