'Supernatural': Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki say Season 6 is bigger and more naked
When "Supernatural" creator Eric Kripke stepped down from his position as showrunner at the end of Season 5, ceding the throne to Sera Gamble, fans responded with mixed reactions. Zap2it was on the scene of Creation Entertainment's Salute to Supernatural in Vancouver where series stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles filled us in on the new regime.
"It was a bit of a guard change," Padalecki says, "But it wasn't abrupt. She's been a big part of the show for many, many years. On that note, the show had to change a little bit. Eric's already said that he had a 5-year arc for the show, so now that's ended, we've had to change the actual show a bit."
"I feel like the show's totally different, just in the way that certain scripts are written," Ackles says.
Ackles, who recently directed his first episode, has a good grasp on the changes occurring behind the camera as well. "Eric controlled the size of the script. How big it was, how many characters were written, how many different locations there were, and he was able to really dial it back and make it a doable show within our budget and the time frame that we were filming," he says.
"I do know that from a production standpoint this year it's increasingly more difficult to film because the shows are so big," he continues. "We need an extra two days of work an extra million dollars of production money just to get it all in."
Padalecki grins. "So we fired Misha [Collins]!" he jokes.
Ackles makes it clear that he's confident in Gamble's leadership. "I just think Sera's kind of finding her legs a little bit," he says. "I don't think [the fans] will notice a difference."
We're pretty sure one change won't escape our attention: "I'm naked a lot more," Padalecki says.
Season 6 premieres at 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24. Our DVR is set. We don't want to miss a moment of Padalecki's... performance.

Jared more naked??? THANK YOU Sera!!! loool
Cannot Wait!!!!!!!!! Faithful fan and will continue to be. I still watch all the reruns on TNT and laugh and cry. Just watched the episode with Madison and still was moved by the emotion. Thank you to all the writers and producers and the wonderful actors for loving what they do! it comes across on screen! :-)
Love the show - love the daily reruns - plan to stick with the new episodes all the way! Not often great shows are born like Supernatural was and I enjoy every episode - some more than others obviously - but I like them all.
Yeah, it's too bad all of those alleged "fans" won't be watching anymore because they can't dictate the storylines. Their loss. All of us SANE people will certainly enjoy the series, though! Rock on, boys.
One shirtless Winchester a week and the ratings would go through the roof. Just sayin. But no matter what I cannot wait until Sept 24.
What the author did not include in this blurb, which is from what the guys said on stage, is that Jared went on to say he was just kidding about being naked.
HA!!! This is why I love these boys. All three of them are nutty. Get your minds out of the gutters!!
I think Kripke has always been a huge Jensen fan and Sara is a Jared fan and I bet the new shows will reflect her preference. Jared is the younger/hotter actor but he is just not nearly as talented or interesting as Jensen. I hope we get some good shows but I'm more than a little worried.
I have faith in Sera that she will do a great job and be fair to both boys. They are both talented. I hope Jared will finally be given more moments to shine as he has proven with the few he has been given in the past. IMHO Sam has always been the more interesting character to me.
Oh, I hope not just Jared naked, give Dean fans a little please, his wife won't mind, it's just eye candy for us!
