Roger Craig becomes third-highest 'Jeopardy!' winner in history

jeopardy-roger-craig.jpgRoger Craig is in pretty elite company. The 33-year-old graduate student at the University of Delaware amassed a seven-day total of $231,200 in cash winnings on "Jeopardy!," the popular trivia game show.

Craig is now the third highest winning contestant on the show (excluding tournaments), behind all-time "Jeopardy!" champ Ken Jennings ($2,520,700) and David Madden ($430,400). Craig also earned the highest one-day total during his second game, where he earned $75,000 and beat a record held by Jennings for more than six years.

"I had no idea that I became the third highest winner until Alex Trebek announced it. I was totally shocked," Craig said in an interview following his final match. "It obviously helped by having set the highest single game record and by my large Daily Double bets."

Craig will earn a Ph.D. in computer science this fall. He plans to use the money to pay off school loans, buy a new car, travel and donate to charity. He also plans to expand his restaurant options. "I eat a lot of Ramen and pasta so I'm hoping to treat myself to sushi more often," he jokes. "I think I'm going to take a lot of people out to dinner now!"

When asked about his success on "Jeopardy!," Craig said, "My mother taught me how to read and encouraged my passion for learning. I'm also very grateful to every teacher I've had -- from kindergarten to grad school."

CRAIG just got ripped off !!!! I will NOT WATCH JEOPARDY UNTIL THERE IS A RE DO WITHOUT THE
" SPORTS CASTER" GETTING A SPORT Q ... THIS IS RIDICULUS

Jeopardy....what a joke. You think they picked that catagory out of a hat....dah. I say it's a fix.

Jeopardy...what a joke. You mean they picked that catagory out of a hat......the fix was in.

Calm down, JK. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that a date in early Feb. is Super Bowl Sunday, especially since it JUST HAPPENED THIS YEAR! Anyone not living under a rock knows the answer to that question. I knew the answer straight away and I am no sportscaster. Roger was a formidable player, but like Jennings, was bound to miss one soon. Are you a blood relative?

Please!!! Anybody well versed in the news and current events should know the Super Bowl is in early February and that New Orleans won amid the mass exodus from the city after the tragedy of Katrina. He guessed Chicago for Final Jeopardy. Personally, I think the producers put stronger competitors against these powerhouse contestants. He lost fairly and squarely, but will be a force in this years Tournament of Champions.

Roger Craig earned $77,000 on his second game, not $75,000. It was Ken Jennings who won $75,000 back in 2004.

and he won it over 6 day period on the 7th day he didnt win anything except getting the second place consellation prize

Jeopardy is too easy now...that way there are these super-high winnings. I enjoyed it when I couldn't answer half the questions!

As soon as I saw the Final Jeopardy question...I thought "Are you flippin' kidding me!!!" I waited until today to post a comment because I was too furious last night to do so. Didn't Jennings get put up against an accountant and the Final Jeopardy question was about taxes? Fixed fixed fixed fixed I say!!!!
