Kristen Bell revives 'Veronica Mars' movie campaign: Is there hope?

kristen-bell-wb.jpgWhen a beloved television show ends, it's practically expected for the fans to demand more, more, more. Usually, the stars are the ones who are reluctant to join the cavalry at the studio door. (We're looking at you, Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham.)

Leave it to former "Veronica Mars" star Kristen Bell to break the pattern. Over three years have passed since her spitfire teen detective made her final appearance, but Bell refuses to give up the dream. Bell took to her Twitter today (September 2) to re-ignite the Neptune flame.

"Mars fans-can we bug @wbpictures & tell em they must do a VM film?? new tactic. bombard em w/tweets, there's evidence of fans they cant ignore," she writes. She doesn't stop there.

"#veronicamars fans send petitions & any obsessive behavior you have to @wbpictures & demand the film. they see no audience for it? i beg to differ."

Bell explains that since Warner Bros. owns the rights to "Veronica Mars," the movie depends on the studio -- unless they release the rights. "They gotta make it, or set it free!" she says. "We would be happy to make it privately!"

Team Zap2it is so, so, so on board with the demand for the movie. The last time we saw Veronica, she was walking through the rain after having been relegated back to the seventh circle of social hell. Let's just say it was the exact opposite of driving off into the sunset. With her status as an underdog once again secure, there's plenty of material left for a movie.

Plus, there's that whole unresolved Veronica/Logan (Jason Dohring) love-hate thing. We simply can't let it go until we've got closure!

Want to join the fight? Direct your tweets to @wbpictures with the hashtag #veronicamarsmovie. Then sign a petition or two, and join this Kristen-sanctioned Facebook group.

Veronica Mars may be a marshmallow, but she's also smarter than you, Warner Bros. Let's prove it!

Bell took to Twitter today about VM because she has a new movie opening this month. That's all. You left out all of her in-between tweets where she tells fans seeing her new film increases the chances of a VM movie getting made, her how they should see it because her character is sassy like Veronica.

I'd like to personally thank Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel for NOT going that route.

I could not possibly care less if her motivations were to get people to see her new movie, if a Veronica Mars movie ever gets made, I'm there. In fact, if there's confirmation that it's GETTING made, I'm off to camp out in line that instant.

But it's NOT going to get made. We've been through this a million times before and we'll have to go through it a million times again (or at least every time she has a new project to pimp, too) and nothing is going to change. I actually think the rumors and press for it all the time is hurting its already dim chances of ever happening even more.

I hope this doesn't double post, too. :/

To be honest, when Veronica Mars started being less about a smart, tough loner making her way through high school and following in her dad's footsteps and more about who she was going to hook up with, I lost interest. The idea of seeing Veronica in the FBI never made a whole lot of sense to me--the last place she belonged was amid a bunch of stuffed shirts. Veronica was badass because she played by her own rules and stuck to her own sense of justice--does anybody really want to see her track down white collar crooks, or chase terrorists like Jack Bauer?

It is true though that if a lot of people see her new movie, it will increase the studio's interest in making a VM movie. Say if When in Rome was a huge blockbuster, then WB would believe that KB is a big star that can fill theatre seats. They would be more likely to take the risk of putting the movie out because there is a large audience who will see KB in a movie. Unfortunately now, they think the people who watched the show and bought the dvds are just not enough.

She would have to have a string of successful movies, which she headlined, before the studio would think that. Even then it's unlikely that her previous film success would mean VM success. There's a very narrow audience that VM will appeal to. It's not enough to get a theater release and Rob Thomas has said he doesn't want to do direct-to-DVD for it. So it won't happen.

Oh please. This is a studio that's graced us this year with Cop Out, Splice, Jonah Hex, Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, and Lottery Ticket.

A Veronica Mars movie would be, and most likely would do, a lot better than that cavalcade of clunkers.

@Annie Wow, you have a rather messy perspective on life. I don't know her personaly, but from all the interviews, the comments, her response to fans and the fact that she picks up stray dogs from the street, I am confident to say Kristen Bell is NOT a sell out. She wants the VM movie just as much as Rob Thomas does or as the fans do. You should only be so lucky to have a canceled show with a lead actor to care this much.

Anonymous, you made me chuckle (and made a great point). I'm not sure you could pay me to watch any of those movies, but a VM movie? I am so there! :)
