Kanye West certainly caused a stir at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. His response to last year's Taylor Swift debacle was a song called "Runaway," in which he toasted various not-so-great guys. You can watch the video here.Zap2it commenters were definitely split about Kanye's "Runaway" performance.

Tyler/Alabama: That was absolutly amazing, and if all u people that want to hate on Kanye turn off your tv and never watch MTV again, everyone's so fast to turn on a man who speeks his opinion, (ok I'll admit a little rude last year) but you're also quick to forget the man has given us some of the greatest music, not only of our generation but of all time... P.S. EMINEM got robbed of the video of the year, I'm just sayin!!

KK: he's an a-hole, at its worst. why everyone was chanting his name like he's a bonafide superstar is beyond me...and why mtv chose him to close the show only reinforces his a-hole actions.

I grew up in a time when rap and hip hop was in its infancy. I understand the fact that rock has withered and died at the hands of record producers more interested in funding gang members then artists... This is why we see the lines blur between different genre of music... Taylor embraces Country when she is really pop/rock and cookie cutter rap groups fill the air with dance music that should be called criminaldisco or jailhumpingmusic....
Kanye is not a GREAT performer when history is written how will he be remembered? like Louis Armstrong or Bach? Not likely...
But then again what we allow to pass for art because people want to rub on each other to a beat is offensive..
Kanye puts three little dancer girls at the edge of his stage as if we are attending the ballet or an Opera .. no mr west I may not like Opera or hiphop ... but i do know what art is... and when i see it even if i disagree with it i can still say its art...

Kanye stole the idea for most of his 2010 VMA performance from an incredible artist named Reggie Watts. He uses an effects box and loops samples and improvises songs live like what Kanye was pathetically trying to duplicate. Youtube Reggie Watts or even Beardyman and you'll see what I mean...
I think it is very telling that most of the people who wrote pro Kanye comments can't spell or use proper grammar.
I wanted to state that I am also tired of the feud between the two. I wish the media would let it go. That being said. It is obvious MTV supports Him. At the beginning of his performace, he was getting boo's form the crowd. You just couldn't hear it because the turned up the feed on the music to cover it up. Then MTV proceeded to move people up to the front to cheer him on. So the people that were chanting his name were actually placed their. I am so sick of him and his better than anyone attitude. I am sick of MTV for continuing to support his behavior. I rarely watch MTV anymore because let's face it, it's nothing but trash. But after knowing what they did, I won't be watching anymore. It's time for silence MTV.
Kanye was being self-deprecating in his song. Despite his "toasting", he's still saying that you're better off not associating with a person like him if he won't change.
To be honest, Kanye is terrible live, but all of his songs are extremely different and amazing, especially Runaway.
Now, I don't like him as a person; however, you can't hate the man when he delivers on almost every album, song and feature he's on.
