'Glee': Which Britney Spears song was the best?
Overall, the "Glee" crew did a great job with the Britney Spears episode -- balancing the fun and energy of the performances with the heartfelt character and story that we crave from the show.Spoilers!
Before delving into the songs though, let's take a look at Spears herself. She has a couple tiny cameos, and they aren't bad. The first is an appearance in Brittany's (Heather Morris) nitrous oxide fantasy, complimenting her. Okay, nothing special. But the second makes us laugh. She appears in Artie's (Kevin McHale) fantasy, and since he's a dude, of course she's wearing a Cheerios uniform for no reason. Fantasy for sure.Oh, and another time as a teacher in "Baby One More Time."
In the "Britney/Brittany" episode we get treated to five Spears songs plus a bonus contemporary number, which we discuss later.
"I'm a Slave 4U" - Brittany wears three of Britney's classic outfits -- the green bikini number, red "Oops I Did It Again" catsuit and the super-sexy nude/sparkle body suit. Besides the fact that Heather Morris looks amazing in those outfits, she's an incredible dancer, and these sequences are so dance-heavy, we really have to give her props for her performance and completely drawing the eye. Oh, and you know she did her own singing, right? Overally, this was such a visual treat. We're sure John Stamos thought so too!
"Me Against the Music" - Brittany and Santana (Naya Rivera) take on the Spears and Madonna collaboration, and once again, the look and dancing are great. Santana isn't quite Madonna in attitude or wielding the cane, but she makes a good effort. Once again, a fun number, but maybe not as eye-popping as the first.
"Baby One More Time" - We have to say that the kids in the hallway weren't the only ones getting whiplash from Rachel's (Lea Michele) fashion makeover. Somehow, it felt a little wrong to be looking at Rachel like that, but Michele did a really good job, even over-exaggerating the mouthing parts of the singing and getting those growly parts that Spears does."Stronger" - We're usually totally down with and Artie number, especially if it ties into the storyline, but for some reason, this fell a little flat for us. The closeups and weightlifting parts worked better than the stuff on the field, so maybe it was something about the lighting or how remote it feels. This was just okay, but we're glad it gave Artie some resolve about trying for the football team again.
"Toxic" - This is probably as good as the first number but for different reasons. Not only is it set in "reality" -- the school's Homecoming pep rally -- but its slower arrangement that makes the most of the song's sinuous qualities. Mr. Schue (Matthew Morrison) and Mike Chang (Harry Shum, Jr.) can move, and it's no wonder they start a Britney Spears sex riot. This is the New Directions we love.Once again ... wasn't HeMo amazing?

One of the worst written episodes of Glee -- a series of music videos weakly strung together by some frail semblance of plot and unbelievable character actions.
Great episode!!! There was a semblance of story involved in the whole episode.
The only episode that I actively disliked. Plot was weak, songs were forced. Heather Morris was awesome, but so inappropriate. Loved Rachel's song to Finn. Love Glee!! Better luck next week.
I love Britney Spears, and I have to say that this was one horrendous episode. It magnified all of the bad qualities of the whole show, mostly because this time it couldn't stand on its amazing musical numbers (because there weren't any there).
What a fantastic episode!!! Jon clearly didn't watch the same one. Heather Morris KILLED it! I'd also just like to announce that I'm officially joining Team Brittany. I'm glad I DVD'd it so I can watch it many more times. I give the entire cast the highest marks. Well done.
BritFan, you obviously formed the opinion that you don't like Glee way before you watched tonights episode. Nobody who watched that with an open mind could come to such a conclusion. No if's and's or but's about it.
I liked this episode. My partner who is 18 years younger than I enjoyed it more since he knew the B. Spears videos and music. I marvel at Ryan Murphy's imagination. He takes us on a wild trip.
Horrible episode, stupid show.
They killed it!!! For all who think it was stupid obviously didn't learn anything from it..maybe you need to stop being so uptight and get that stick out of you know where. ;)
That "Toxic" performance would have prompted a riot in my school too. It was hot and dirty and I LoVeD it!
