'Glee' stars on 'The Simpsons': That's all?
"Glee" may be gold on FOX, but its stars were woefully underused on "The Simpsons."The animated show kicked off its 22nd season Sunday night (Sept. 26), and much of the advertising was sure to mention that sister FOX show "Glee" would have a few of its stars -- Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Amber Riley -- stopping by.
Hoping for some biting musical jabs or references to Sue Sylvester or, hell, even the overuse of hair gel, we tuned in to see what "Glee" shenanigans were afoot. We were underwhelmed.
In "The Simpsons" B plot, Lisa is sent to Arts Camp for a week and meets three fellow campers -- the animated versions of Rachel, Finn and Mercedes. They roughly look like their flesh counterparts and even sing a spoof of "Good Vibrations" titled "Arts Education," but that's really about it. Very few quippy lines, and the few they had fell flat.
Shoot, they don't ever officially introduce themselves either. Frankly, we were disappointed. These kids might as well have been anybody. For an episode titled "Elementary School Musical," we definitely expected an extravaganza along the lines of "Camp Rock 2," but more irreverent of course.
We wonder: Perhaps some good stuff was cut out?
The episode wasn't a total loss though. In the guest stars department, "Flight of the Conchords'" Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie lend their voices to super-artsy camp counselors that are struggling artists in their daily lives. Also, public radio personality Ira Glass spoofing himself on a hot dog-themed "This American Life" segment is hilarious ("Act I: Ketchup, "Act II ..."), and Stephen Hawking is always a welcome visitor.
Another great highlight is Bart's opening sequence chalkboard message: "When I slept in class it was not to help Leo DiCaprio." "Inception" love!

I enjoyed it even if they were under-used. Actually I never thought they were under-used until I read this so maybe they had a perfect amount of airtime.
Now I would love to see more Glee cast members guest starring.
I don't know why but I hate Lisa themed episodes lately.
I liked the episode, but they could have used the three Glee members (I had never heard of Clement or McKenzie before) better. This feels like when Andre Agassi appeared on the episode "Tennis the Menace" and his ONLY line was ""I'm Andre Agassi." They brought him in just to say that one line (which wasn't even funny, at least when Joyce Brothers guest starred and had one line, it was funny: "I brought my own mike!")
The Simpsons was actually funny today. Keep stupid Glee off of it.
I tuned in to watch The Simpsons for the first time in like 3 years just because I heard the Glee kids were going to be on. And was kinda disappointed at their amount of screentime. Well, guess no Simpsons for me next week...
Great combination from a classic series to a soon to be classic series.
Flight of the Conchords deserve some love. They were killer, as always.
They were under used. Have them sing more.
No need for the last option, glee doesn't need you help with the haters.
Ha Danny - glee was on the episode you just said was funny.
I missed this episode BECAUSE of the "Glee" tie-in.
