'Glee': Rachel laments 'What I Did For Love'

GoogleRachel Berry (Lea Michele) was up to her usual soaring ballads on the season premiere of "Glee." The call for this episode was "What I Did for Love," one the most well-known songs from long-running Broadway musical "A Chorus Line."
Just as an aside, if you've never seen "A Chorus Line," you really should. The live show is exceptional, but as far as movie adaptations go, the movie is also excellent. Did you know Michael Douglas is in it?

Flawless. Simply flawless. I absolutely loved the episode from beginning to end. I loved that only two people paid any attention to New Directions as they performed "Empire State of Mind." Nice touch. Holy cow can Charice sing! Dang! She really impressed the hell out of me. Welcome back Glee. I've missed you.
The song makes no sense in this episode, since all of her antics were self-serving, not for others' benefit. She should have sung "What I Did For Self-Love".

This song felt completely out of place and just a way to squeeze in a Rachel ballad. She does not need to sing in every episode.
Lea Michele was amazing, as usual...such an incredible vocalist.
I think the whole point of “What I Did For Love” was that she DID do it for love. Hence the song. Granted it was misguided and wrong. I think she lied to Finn when she said it was all about her - it was about how much she loves everyone else. They're the closest things to "friends" that she has and let's face it, they only seem to tolerate her for her voice. They'd stop caring about her if they thought they'd found someone more talented.
Add to that, the abandonment issues. It doesn't excuse it, but I can see why she'd fight to keep the people that have become like "family" in her life.
