'Bones': What to expect from the Season 6 premiere
Everyone at "Bones" knows what a watershed moment the start of Season 6 is for the series. It's evident from the first moments of the premiere, "The Mastodon in the Room," which we know -- because we just watched it. The first "Bones" of the new season is always greeted by Zap2it with the kind of fervor most reserve for Christmas morning or Rex Manning Day, so you can imagine the scrambling to find the uninterrupted time and a quiet place that ensued when it found its way to us earlier today. Our thoughts, with only the lightest, most respectful spoilers, ahead...
Season 6 opens with a kind of cinematic grandeur and intensity that's almost disarming in how unfamiliar it is -- in a good way, of course. "Bones" has always operated within very clearly defined parameters. Even during Season 4's London outing, it all seemed to be a part of the series' very fixed world. And that world is now expanding, not just in locations, but in issues and character quirks we never saw coming.
So what can be shared about "The Mastodon in the Room" while honoring the metaphor-laden episode with the appropriate amount of ambiguity? Here are just a few tidbits.
Cam's situation:
While the Jeffersonian gang's return to save Cam's (Tamara Taylor) job is indeed about identifying a corpse, the specific case is not the reason her job's in jeopardy. What has her in hot water with the higher-ups will likely remain an issue throughout the season.
Intern deathwatch:
Earlier production claims of a squint death at the hands of Season 6's upcoming serial sniper, that were then sort of rescinded, seem less likely after having seen the premiere -- and not for the reason you'd expect.
A Parisian souvenir:
Alright, this one's a biggie, but given FOX's choice to reveal it in their most recent promos (see below), we feel obliged to acknowledge that the episode confirms Angela (Michaela Conlin) and Hodgins' (T.J. Thyne) speculated pregnancy.
The Mastodon is Hannah:
And she's still invisible. As Zap2it was first to report in July, Hannah (Katheryn Winnick) doesn't make her first official appearance until the second episode, so we're afraid you're going to have to slowly tug at that band-aid for a whole other week.
All in all, it's just a really fun season premiere that will entertain the fans tired of the romance and bait the rest of us still holding out for a Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) love connection.
Look at your calendars. September 23 is sooner than you think. .

I just hope that they get past all the romantic angles as it was just too much and the way that it was addressed was imo weak, but would allow us to move past it, but unfortunately allows for a reset for the urst build up again... which would just be cause for me to finally give up on the show that I've watched since ep 1.... get back to making the cases interesting!
I agree with the first comment . . . this show is getting just too hyped -- going for the glitz and glam -- when all they really need are some kick-*ss cases.
I wish Bones would go back to it's original premise of solving crimes and dwell less on the personal relationships of the characters.
I agree totally! Although I do enjoy some romantic sub plots going on-especially the "Hodgela" romance, I still watch the show because to the often weird, creepy? and odd cases. I'd hate to see the show become another Grey's Anatomy--too much soap opera! Better stoy lines and less bed hopping would be great!
@ TV Fan; That's why I can't stand NCIS or Law & Order. There are other shows that when a cast member leaves the show no one cares. When Zak left as a regular alot of people (like me) were pi$$ed!
I disagree. I think what sets Bones aside from other "solve it" tv shows is the amazing interaction between the characters and the in depth relationships they have. I for one appreciate that they didnt just hook up Booth and Bones in the first season, like most shows tend to do. Without the wackiness that is the back and forth between Booth and Brennan, the absolute absurdity of the Hodgins/Angela exchanges, the revolving interns, loveable sweets, and the underlying friendships between them all, Bones would just be another CSI. And personally, I dont care what city you slap on it, who needs another one of those.
Oh and kudos to Mikey... I love Rex Manning Day!
Is that supposed to be Cam in between Booth and Sweets?
Also, what's up with Bones' Diane Sawyer hair?
Well loyal internet philes, these are talented actors and actresses. They need to eat. If you have to, leave the tv on while you go shopping. It's not their fault their writers didn't come back after the strike. These people need our love and support. And come on, they seem to be willing to do anything to get it, don't they?
That's gonna be one good looking kid.
I am one that does love the relationship stuff that goes on. I have to rewatch an episode to get any part of the case. But they are driving me crazy with B/B thing. I am just done. We get it! They aren't getting together, sadly.
LOVE that Angela and Hodgins are back together. Now lets bring Zack back and make it the show it should be.
This season sounds like it could be a great season, I hope it lives out my expectations.
I love this show didn't get into it until the 3rd season...real life know anyhow I hope these writers are smart enough to not go the way of the Xfiles and drag this B&B thing out so long that hopefuls like me get no payoff. I thnk they could still write exciting sexy stories if B&B were together...maybe secretly...I think this team could do it and write it realistically these two have a lot in common but they have a LOT of differences too show them trying to deal with it all and fight crime and keep it undercover so to speak...yea it COULD be good!! I hope they keep Hodgela spicy I hope they keep Wendell I hope they bring Max back and Zach and love that Caroline is still there!! Can't wait for the 23rd!!
