'Bones': Emily Deschanel on Brennan's jealousy and not being a cougar
On the Season 6 premiere of "Bones," fans will see a side to Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) they're not used to. Our clinical heroine exhibits hints of jealousy.
No, it's not obvious, and Brennan may not even realize it herself, but there's a notable seed of envy when Booth (David Boreanaz) returns from Afghanistan, smitten with another woman.
Zap2it caught up with Deschanel at FOX's fall premieres party, and the actress had some thoughts on her character's potential emotional thawing. "She feels something, but she doesn't understand what's happening," says Deschanel. "She's covered her emotions so much, and built this wall around her. I think there's jealousy there, but she'd never admit it to anyone else and certainly she wouldn't admit it to herself. I don't even think she can let that happen."
Well, it definitely won't happen immediately. Hannah (Katheryn Winnick), Booth's new girlfriend, is around for an indeterminate number of episodes, so if Brennan does come to terms with her jealousy, expect a slow burn.
"Brennan is always evolving, and she's certainly become more personable... or striving to become more personable and understanding of human beings and human interaction. I think that can be the next step, to be aware of her emotions."
And while we're all still waiting for her to come around, her partner has stopped -- at least for now. "There's a tentative quality to Booth when we come back," Deschanel says. "He's had his heart broken, and he doesn't want to even go there again or consider that... Brennan wants to be happy for him, but she's struggling with her emotions. It's definitely a new dynamic, for sure."
Deschanel also offered some tidbits on upcoming episodes. In addition to the previously reported "Jersey Shore" homage, murdered street performer investigation and David Alan Grier's guest stint as a Mr. Wizard-esque TV host, Brennan and Booth go on a "cougar cruise" in November, where some of the young men on the lookout for older women fall for Brennan instead.
"I would hope I'm not quite a cougar yet," says 33-year-old Deschanel, channeling a bit of Brennan's cultural confusion. "Maybe that's why I'm attractive to the guys."
Emily, you've definitely got a decade and change before you even approach cougar status.

33 are you freaking kidding me? I'm 35 and always liked her because she had that whole sexy older woman vibe to her....uhh...ok, there goes that!
She's still a hottie!
I will never understand the rationale behind changing a dynamic that has had viewers coming back for 5 seasons! Hannah aside, it is going to be the lack of Booth and Brennan chemistry that is going to have the viewers tuning in to something else. I wish Hart & Co luck, because based on the promos, I'm going to need B&B's dynamic back if I'm going to continue to watch the show religiously.
Brennan did feel jealousy before and does know what the feeling is like. She admitted at the end of "The Cinderella in the Cardboard" that she was jealous of Cam, Angela and Booth because they believed that love was eternal and could be found with one special person and she wanted to believe that too. Now it seems that Brennan is back tracking and again not accepting or understanding her jealous feelings over Booth and Hannah. She also seemed to back track on the subject of love. In "Tough Man in the Tender Chicken" she proposed a toast to love to Jared and his fiance. Then in the 100th episode she said that she couldn't change and love Booth the way that he wanted/needed to be loved. I wonder if the journalists who are asking Emily these questions even watch the show or are just trying to seem like they know what's going on?!!
"she feels something, but she doesn't understand what's happening."
lolwut? is she a robot? "what is...love?" well maybe that explains a lot, actually.
Only 1 more week and "BONES" is back!
If she's going full on, she might want to rethink the Diane Sawyer haircut. Nothing screams 80's like the bob. Maybe she'll start wearing pastels!
While I may tape it for later perusal, I'm foaming at the mouth for Castle and Fringe!
Bones should let him go. If he really was committed he would wait for her no matter what. He knows how she is. He's always had girlfriends throughtout the show....dog. Writers need to bring Bones in a guy worthly of her and let her have her own love life story line
Bring back the guy who sailed off on the boat. He was better looking than Booth, he loved her and wanted to sail away with her. He was sooo devoted and she needs someone like that. Bones and Booth have a brother/sister thing goining on and that why they never could hook up.
Honestly, this 'prolonging' saga of keeping Booth & Brennan apart, NEEDS A REST !! It's like, HOW MANY TIMES do we have to get 'sick and tired' of Hart and the writers with their 'dreaming up' these RUNAROUND GAMES they're playing on us ?? And all because of NOT putting Booth and Brennan FINALLY together in a relationship ?? Really, I am so-ooo tired of NOT seeing them as a couple already. To be truthful, it's been a long enough journey with all the CONSTANT WAITING. Nobody really wants to WAIT any longer. IT'S TIME for change, and the change is having our "BOOTH & BRENNAN" FINALLY AS A COUPLE !!
From a logical standpoint, if this show does NOT get 'renewed' for any more seasons, I say it's a TRUE BLESSING !! As only then, will any of us FINALLY get to see Booth and Brennan 'ENDING UP' AS A COUPLE. Obviously, the show's ratings will 'play a part' in the telling. Just hopefully, the wide 'LOSS OF VIEWERS' will be enough to alarm FOX to 'pull the plug' on any more future "will they" OR "won't they" seasons. Cuz seriously, it's time for this show to end, as that's the ONLY WAY any of us will get to see what we all have been waiting wayyyyyyy toooooooo longgggggg for.
"BOOTH & BRENNAN" FOREVER TOGETHER !!!!
No more delay tactics, it's time for it to happen. Case closed.
This show needs to focus on one thing.
Forget about Hannah Afgannah -- just "BRING IT ON" for Booth & Brennan.
