Anderson Cooper nearing deal for new daytime talk show

UPDATE: The deal is official as of Thursday morning (Sept. 30). Cooper's daytime show will launch in the fall of 2011, and he'll continue to host "Anderson Cooper 360" on CNN.

Are 360 simply not enough degrees of Anderson Cooper for your taste? You might be in luck. The CNN host is reportedly in talks for his own daytime talk show.

The Live Feed reports Cooper is being courted by Telepictures Productions and Warner Brothers for new, earlier venture to be pitched to networks for next season -- no doubt filling a hole left by one Ms. Oprah Winfrey.

Don't expect aggressive news coverage to make the move to daytime with him, though. The "topical format" series will instead focus on pop culture, social issues and celebrity interviews. He'd presumably continue his more journalistic work on "360," which he's contracted to stay on.

Cooper may be more of a prime time fixture, but he's no stranger to the AM circuit either. He frequently subs as co-host with Kelly Ripa when Regis Philbin takes his contractually granted three-day weekends. He's no Rege -- who is? -- but he's still pretty good at it.
