'American Idol' report: Jennifer Lopez deal almost done

jennifer-lopez-american-idol-judge.jpgAfter a month-plus of reports, rumors and she's in-she's out-she's back in-no wait a minute speculation, the latest word on Jennifer Lopez is that she is back on with "American Idol."

Thursday's (Sept. 2) news comes from TMZ, which says Lopez joining the "Idol" judges' panel is "all but a done deal." She would work alongside Randy Jackson, whom executive producer Nigel Lythgoe has said will be back, and Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler on a reconstituted show. There's still no word on Kara DioGuardi's future.

TMZ's source also pooh-poohs the notion that Lopez has made "diva demands" that led to reports of her being dropped from consideration a few weeks back.

Meanwhile, FOX has announced that it's added a final audition round in Los Angeles. The auditions will take place Sept. 22 at the Forum in Inglewood (details are at AmericanIdol.com). If "Idol" sticks to Lythgoe's Aug. 19 assertion that a decision would be made "within three weeks" -- i.e., by the end of next week -- L.A. hopefuls could at least know whom they'll be singing for if they make it in to see the judges.

Great, she was the perfect fit for Idol. She knows all aspects of the biz.

Jen will bring ratings, but tyler and randy will lose them, and simon leaving will hurt too.

Have no complaints about Jlo--she should be a good fit to Idol. My only thought is WTF took so long. You were not lauching a rocket to Mars. If this was an attempt to garner interest and greater viewership, I think that boat sailed about a month ago. AI should show a little class toward Kara D. On this one you missed the boat entirely.

Being an avid Idol fan, I'm real okay with Randy>JLo>Steve. What will be icing on the cake?..... Nigel sitting in the fourth chair!

RE: cherylr...

NO... what would be REAL icing on the cake is if there weren't a 4th chair. Pretty much everyone agrees that four is too many, keep it at three please.

If Jennifer Lopez is really joining on, with Steve and Randy... then I'm sorry to say that Kara should leave (I like her). 3 judges are plenty, 4 takes up too much time... doesn't allow each judge enough time to say what they have to say.

I would prefer Randy, Kara and Steve. But I'll take Randy, Jlo and Steve.

3 Judges! Please, no more! Just get the ink dry and be done with it! I do think Kara is not getting a fair shake, and love or hate her, she is much more qualified than JLo. The only reason Fox wants her is to appease the "Bring back Paula" campaign. They want another Ditzy idiot that never makes any sense. STeven Tyler....UGH. Well, Simon is someone to love or hate, so I suppose ST will be the same. Hope they don't last more than one season.

JLo is awesome, Ellen was a mistake and I'm not sold on Tyler. Randy should go too.

JLO is a hasbeen music artist and actress.
Her last 2 albums flopped and her movies flopped.
I fail to see how she would bring in any ratings.
You need a bigger music act like a Shania Twain or Elton John. But they probably turned idol down.
