TV ratings: 'Big Brother,' 'AGT' score Wednesday
Fast National ratings for Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010Both "Big Brother 12" and "America's Got Talent" saw their ratings rise some compared to last Wednesday, with the former scoring the night's best demographic numbers and the latter gathering the biggest overall audience.
Thanks to "AGT," NBC led the night overall with 7.4 million viewers and a 4.6 rating/8 share in households. CBS drew 6.9 million people and a 4.4/8 for second, while FOX (5.1 million, 3.0/5) came in third. ABC's 3.8 million viewers and 2.5/4 were good enough for fourth place. The CW (1.25 million, 0.8/1) trailed.
FOX led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 2.2 rating (even though, like last week, it didn't win either hour in which it broadcast. Hooray consistency). NBC finished second at 2.0, a tenth of a point ahead of CBS, 1.9. ABC averaged 1.1 and The CW 0.4.

Again the big story here is that the FOX cooking contest won the 18-49 demo with a 2.2 despite not winning any time periods. They won by default because the 10:00 PM hour has far fewer viewers. DVR usage is much higher at that hour resulting in fewer live viewers especially with the young adult demo. I guess cooking shows are all the rage this summer!
What an awful summer for the big 4. Endless reruns and stupid contests pretty much sum up their low budget programing. The solid Rookie Blue (around 7 million viewers) was the highest rated scripted new show among the major networks. RB ranked just below cables top 2 shows TNT's Closer and the new Rizzoli. Can't wait for the new fall season!
Sad, I guess Preta want looking at the bigger picture and was micro reporting again!
To Anon: Cheap reality shows and Reruns = High Profits. Fictional scripted shows (unless it's a hit Canadian import ala Rookie Blue) are very expensive and often lose $$, even during the regular season.
