'The Last Exorcism' ending -- what did you think?
"The Last Exorcism," the new horror movie from director Eli Roth, is not only scary throughout but has one ... ahem ... killer ending. Don't keep reading if you don't want to be spoiled. The main mystery throughout the movie is whether or not Nell (Ashley Bell) is actually possessed by something evil or merely having a reaction to a psychological trauma. The viewer knows as much as main character Cotton Marcus (Patrick Fabian), who is there to perform the exorcism.
But in the last 15 minutes or so, everything is turned upside-down, as it's revealed Nell was raped and is pregnant and they don't know who did it. So when Cotton and his camera crew return to the farmhouse, they find the townspeople conducting a Satanic ritual in the woods.
Nell gives birth to ... something, which the local town "pastor" throws into the bonfire. Cotton brandishes a cross and runs into the fracas, while the cameraman and the interviewer run away and are apparently killed.
So was it Satan all along? Is the town pastor Satan or one of his minions? Did the ending ruin what the rest of the movie was building up for you?

The ending was horrrible!! I was very pissed the way it ended only because i thought she was going to get help. it was a twist though when the priest was evil. in the movie when the revren (cotton) went to the local church he told cotton that nels dad did not like him and thats why he removed her from that church obviously because the dad knew they were evil.. the ending was exactly what the picture was. the priest burns and the camera man gets slit and the lady gets be headed by the brother though was he evil?
M
Daniel Stamm directed The Last Exorcism, not Eli Roth.
Just saw the movie and hoped to find some sort of explanation to the ending. Cant find nothing... But I gotta admit it's very hard to predict what exactly happen. In the beginning the reverend and crew have an odd meet and greet from the son who happens to mention how he will hurt them if they do anythin wrong to his sister. For one thing, when the son is supposedly sliced in the face by his sister and taken straight to the hospital, actual "exorcism" events start to happen while he's not around. Not until the near end of the movie does the son appear again, and he appears with a big slice & dice killing the crew guys. I think that maybe the son left the hospital and contributed to some of the creepie stuff that went on at the house and he probably got his own sister pregnant. But then again, that "thing" she gives birth to looks nothing like a human baby (unless the brother was a demon himself). I really dont know!! Theres so many interpretations. Id really like an explanation from the directors of the movie!
In my opinion I think that the sister (nell) and her father were the only true believers in the movie. I think that when the brother first met the revron he was scared because he thought that the revron was a true saviour that could ruin the town's satanic plans (hence his bad behaviour at the beginning). However once the brother realizes that the revron treated the exorcism as a psychologic thing (with his magic tricks and acting) the brother started to like the revron and did not feel threatened by him (thumbs up). Now, in the end of the movie, we see that the revron truly starts to beleive in what he is witnessing and so, that is when the brother feels threatened again and so he murders the whole crew.
I thought the movie was really well done overall, and Ashley Bell was fantastic. I actually really enjoyed the ending, even the questions that it leaves. It appears as though Cotton got his faith back by the end, I just wish i knew whether he was able to save her or not (even though he probably ended up getting killed by her brother anyways). I'm definitely going to watch the ending a couple more times at least.
I actually really enjoyed the movie. People are giving it a HUGE thumbs down on Twitter - but I liked it. I do believe that the Reverend died. Remember the pictures she drew about halfway through - of him running into a fire and the crew getting killed by chopping them up? Well - those predictions came true since that's exactly what happened. Did she give birth - or did the local pastor's wife pull the "baby" out of her? The ending was insane, but I do think Ashley Bell did an amazing job.
really weird movie, i have to see it again so it can make sense..and why did cotton have to die :(
GUYS. PAY ATTENTION TO THE PICTURES THAT NELL DREW. They describe everything that happens. She kills the cat, Cotton faces Satan with the cross, then Cotton is thrown into the fire, and the rest of the crew is mutilated. I loved this movie. :D
i just don't think the ending was up to par.
i liked how the pastor was evil though, that was just genious
i don't think that this girl was possessed, i think these creepy cult people got her pregnant.
it left us hanging.
maybe there's going to be another one? anyone ever think of that? idk.
