'The Good Wife's' Christine Baranski, Archie Panjabi 'both genuinely surprised' at Emmy noms

christine-baranski-archie-panjabi-good-wife-cbs.jpg"The Good Wife" came away from its freshmen season with nine Emmy nominations and co-stars Christine Baranski and Archie Panjabi competing against each other for outstanding supporting actress in a drama.

Zap2it caught up with the actresses to find out if the show has been buzzing since the Emmy nominations came in -- and if there is any trash-talking going on between the two competitors.

"Oh, no. No! I adore [Panjabi] so much," laughs Baranski.

"We both just looked at each other and laughed," says Panjabi. "The show's only been on for one season, and we both felt to warrant a nomination you'd have to be on for some time. We were both genuinely surprised, but equally thrilled for each other."

It also turns out an impromptu Emmy celebration fell into their laps.

"When nominations came in, about a week later, I had tickets to a Sting concert and the two people I asked couldn't go and I thought, 'Oh my God, Archie's in town,'" Baranski says. "I thought what a perfect thing to take Archie to. We really like each other and I thought it'd be so perfect. We're both nominated, we're both surprised and delighted. I don't want to feel like I'm competition."

The feeling of love and excitement carries over into the atmosphere on set -- even though none of the male leads were nominated. "The Good Wife" recently started production for the second season,

"Everybody gets on very well ... there is a great feeling of excitement and unity," Panjabi says. "Of course everybody would love to be nominated, but we come to work and we're gaining critical success and great figures, so everybody is thrilled. If it doesn't happen this year, everybody is looking forward to the following year. It's a very exciting period to be working on 'The Good Wife.'"

Baranski echoes those sentiments. "There was a flurry of emailing between everybody. I certainly emailed Josh [Charles] and said you are so entitled to an Emmy nod ... I think it's a mistake to analyze these awards things too much ... you give it too much weight.

"There's always wonderful people who aren't nominated," she continues. "I think our male leads, all three of those guys are so fantastic and for my book, all worthy of nominations."

While this is Panjabi's first nomination, 2010 marks Baranski's seventh and eighth (she's up for outstanding guest actress in a comedy for her role as Leonard's mother on "The Big Bang Theory" as well). But all of Baranski's nominations other than for "The Good Wife" have been for comedy.

"The real treat for me is to be nominated in a dramatic category because it's really not my thing," says Baranski. "I'm delighted at this stage in my career to play a dramatic role and to get an nomination for the work, it's means a lot to me."

Season 2 of "The Good Wife" premieres at 10 p.m. ET Tuesday, Sept. 28 on CBS. The 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards air at 8 p.m. ET Sunday, Aug. 29 on NBC.

Congratulations to Christine and Archie! They are both so fabulous on this show and are very deserving. It is nice to read that people actually like working together and there isn't all that back-stabbing bulls&*t going on! Very classy! Can't wait for September 28!

Don't care for the Baranski character - she's such a B - and in the beginning, she was against Alicia, putting her down, putting her in her place, downright nasty. She has come around by end of season, which makes her more likable to me. So, my Vote goes to Kalinda - Panjabi. Now, SHE is verrrry good. Makes a positive impression, and I like how smart & cunning she is. As for Emmy's - isn't Juliana Margulies up too - as Lead Actress on the show..?? SHE is really, really good in this show. Never cared much for her before, but adore her character in this show - she's charismatic, subdued without being submissive, smart, terrific mother - although, would she have stayed by her cheating man in real life..?? Hmmm... Still, LOVE Alicia - she's the main reason why I watch this show. Looking forward to Season-2. Hope they don't change Alicia to a submissive wife - she's great the way she is now, so hope they don't try to fix what's not broken. My Vote goes to Margulies as well. So exciting... can't wait to see the Emmy's.
