'SYTYCD': tWitch talks injuries, 'Idol' and 'Step Up 3D'

Stephen "tWitch" Boss
has been enjoying his time as an all-star on
"So You Think You Can Dance"
and will be back Thursday, Aug. 5 to perform with rapper Flo Rida for the results show.
As the Season 4 runner-up, Boss understands how rough the current season has been, especially with the multiple injuries that have been keeping the contestants from the competition. Earlier, he
partnered with ballet dancer Alex Wong
for a difficult hip-hop number that garnered Wong lots of praise and attention, but sadly a week later Wong snapped his Achilles tendon during rehearsals and had to drop out.
"The life of a dancer is not an easy road," Boss tells
Zap2it
when we catch up with him at the KTLA Morning Show.
Boss doesn't think the new format -- bringing back all-stars as partners -- is to blame for the injuries, but he does think the change has been positive for the show."SYTYCD" creator
Nigel Lythgoe
was one of the people behind the new format, and
now that he's returning
to
"American Idol"
as an executive producer, he could use his expertise to revamp that show as well.
"Nigel is a smart man," says Boss. "He really does his thing and has been doing it for years. It seems like almost everything he touches is gold."
Boss hasn't been doing too badly for himself either. He's co-starring in Disney's
"Step Up 3D"
as Jason, a tech nerd who's part of a group of street dancers led by Luke (Rick Malambri). They need to win the prize money from a big dance battle so they won't get evicted, and it's possible that newcomers Natalie (Sharni Vinson) and Moose (Adam Sevani) could help.
Boss, who loves Superman and even named his dog Krypto, particularly enjoyed playing Jason because the character is a comic book nerd.
"Kind of hits close to home, just a little bit," he says.
"Step Up 3D" is the first feature-length dance movie shot in 3D and hits theaters Friday, Aug. 6.
