'Saturday Night Live': Will Forte not returning next season

will-forte-leaving-snl.jpgMacGruber has survived his last explosion.

Will Forte is keeping up the "Saturday Night Live" tradition of late-August departures by not coming back to the series for Season 36.

The New York Times reports that multiple sources say Forte won't be coming back and that the parting was amicable -- though at Forte's request. He wants to devote more time to other projects.

Hopefully those other projects will bring him more success than "MacGruber," the hilarious but certifiable bomb adaptation of one of his many "SNL" characters.

And there've been so many... the Falconer, Clancy T Bachleratt, absent-minded ESPN Classic commentator Greg Stink and, most recently, the monotone lothario Hamilton, whose inappropriate speeches at weddings, funerals and Q&As made for some of last season's funnier sketches.

UPDATE: NBC referred Zap2it to Forte's personal publicist who confirmed the news, saying, "After eight great seasons, Will has made the decision to move on from SNL to pursue new opportunities. He is eternally grateful to Lorne and all of the incredible people he worked with over the years."

So what do you think -- a good or bad move for Forte? And, most importantly, how much will you miss him?

I liked Will Forte. I know SNL sucks sometimes and even the best players have some bad skits, but he was definitely one of the better ones. I saw "MacGruber" and agree that the movie was actually quite funny and deserved to do better.

I hope he can revive "Clone High"!

I would have went to see Macgruber but Kirsten Wiig was in it so I stayed home.

Love Will Forte, he's the reason I watched SNL. Gonna miss him

most of the stars of SNL that leave to "pursue new opportunities" is to mean that they had a good movie ... wait was Macgruber a good movie?

Jay... It was a good movie, critics seemed to actually think it was great, but it wasn't a success money wise. That being said, Tommy Boy and Billy Madison, to name a few, didn't make much money in theaters either.

Really sorry to hear he's gone. He was up there with Hader as one of the consistently funny performers on SNL.. I wish him all the best!

Who won't remember years from now where they were when they heard this news?

HE'S NOT EVEN FUNNY. HE SHOULD'VE STAYED THERE FOREVER B/C HE WONT HAVE A MOVIE CAREER

Aw man, I'm gonna miss him. All of his skits were hilarious!

I love the skits he did with Kristen Wiig where they're making up songs o. The spot and pretending they're real, written songs. Hilarious.
