Neil Patrick Harris gets yet another Emmy nomination

neil-patrick-harris-getty-320.jpgNeil Patrick Harris just went from double Emmy nominee to triple Emmy nominee.

It's not just because the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences loves Harris so much. But the academy is correcting an error and has rightfully given Harris a nomination for his turn hosting the 2009 Tony Awards.

Here's what went down, per our friends at The Envelope: The 2009 Tonys are nominated for outstanding special class program -- a hodgepodge category that also includes the 2010 Academy Awards, webisodes for "30 Rock" on NBC.com and a series of Dharma Initiative videos tying in to "Lost."

According to Emmy rules, hosts of award shows are supposed to be nominated along with their producers (Oscar hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin were), but Harris was somehow left off the list of nominees for the Tonys. After The Envelope pointed out the goof, he was added to the ballot and will get an Emmy if the Tonys should win in the category.

Awards hosts used to compete in for outstanding performance in a variety/comedy/music special, but the academy eliminated that category a year ago.

Harris is also nominated for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy for "How I Met Your Mother" -- his fourth straight -- and for best guest actor in a comedy for "Glee."

The Primetime Emmys air Aug. 29 on NBC; the Creative Arts ceremony is Aug. 21.
