Miss Philippines 2010 vs. irony: The answer that cost her Miss Universe

miss-philippines-2010-answer.jpgMiss Philippines Venus Raj said during Monday's Miss Universe pageant that she had no major regrets in her life. She might now.

Raj was considered a favorite to win the Miss Universe title, but she ended up in fifth place after stumbling in the interview round of the competition on Monday (Aug. 23). More than a few people are saying her answer to the question cost her the crown, which went to Miss Mexico Jimena Navarrete.

The question, from judge William Baldwin, was simple enough: What is one big mistake you've made in your life, and what did you do to make it right? Seems ripe for a nice, I'm-human-too sort of answer about having let down a friend or loved one, right?

Raj didn't go that way, though, instead saying that there had been "nothing major, major" in her life that she's regretted. "I'm very confident with my family and the love they give me, so thank you so much that I'm here," she said. Her full answer is below -- watch the video and let us know what you think: Did Raj's answer cost her the Miss Universe title?

if i were 22, that beautiful and well-off and supported enough to have the chance to pursue the title of "miss universe", i probably wouldn't have too many life experiences to count as major mistakes. because i wouldn't have too many life experiences.

Miss Philippines gave such an embarrassingly ridiculous answer. To elevate oneself above the level of a convicted conscience is unwarranted arrogance, which I believe is one of the reasons Miss Philippines failed to win the title of Miss Universe. Miss Mexico gave, what I perceived to be, a more genuine answer. Miss Mexico also surpassed her rival in beauty.

Was the judge decision to deny Miss Philippines Universe crown fair? Does it pay to be honest anymore? Did the judges
prefer she had lied and made up a"big problem" she has not experience?
Correct the injustice by giving her the right honor instead of fifth place, she is abosolutely exemplary in her sociableness, honest and being herself.

bad answer.

I think, in every question in Miss Universe, there is really no correct or wrong answer but how you gracefully answer the question. She was just being frank and she showed grace in expressing her answer.

I like her. She is like me. Perfect.

Everyone has regrets and even if she had lived a priviledged life, she could have put more of an answer to it instead of answering that she hadn't had any and go on to thanking her family.

OMG, who CARES? Why would anyone watch this? Why would anyone be concerned over any of this?

So she's stupid. Big deal. Why is Miss Mexico any less deserving than this bimbo? Why do we have sexist contests like this anyway?

Miss Mexico won because of the immigrants. It is just a sympathy
votes to show that the judges are boosting to the moral of the immigrants.

She's 22 years old how many regrets do you have at 22. Ask her the same question at 42 and her answer will be different.
