Miss Mexico Jimena Navarrete wins Miss Universe pageant

jimena-navarrete-miss-universe-320.jpgJimena Navarrete of Mexico is the 2010 Miss Universe.

She won the title Monday night (Aug. 23) during NBC's live broadcast of the pageant in Las Vegas. Miss Jamaica Yendi Philipps was the first runner-up; Miss Australia Jesinta Campbell, Miss Ukraine Anna Poslavska and Miss Philippines Venus Raj -- who was the online favorite -- rounded out the top five.

Navarrete takes over as Miss Universe from Stefania Fernandez, who won last year's pageant representing Venezuela.

Navrrete had the second-highest score among the top 15 (behind Philipps) in the swimsuit portion of the competition and was the top scorer after the evening-gown portion.

All five finalists handled their interview question pretty well. Judge Evan Lysacek asked Navarrete about the effect of unsupervised Internet use on young people. She answered that while the Internet is an "indispensable tool," adults should be watchful about what their kids are seeing online.

Campbell was given the Miss Congeniality award by her fellow contestants, while Miss Thailand Fonthip Watcharatrakul won both Miss Photogenic and the favorite national costume award.

"Today" co-host Natalie Morales and "Celebrity Apprentice" winner Bret Michaels hosted the broadcast.

We are hopeful to have that in different nation in the world a peaceful and organized government as what Miss Universe Pageant done. From the Filipino people we are proud of Miss Venus Raj for representing and bringing it until TOP 5.

As a Mexican and a fan of the Miss Universe pageant for more than 20 years, I am happy to have witnessed the country's second win in a year of history for all Mexicans.
Interesting that Jimena wins in Las Vegas and wearing a red dress, just like Lupita Jones, our first winner.
Congratulations to Jimena and to Lupita Jones for supervising and creating Nuestra Belleza.

Who cares? Mexico is still a poor country, it has drugs and mafia and all that latin stuff, doesn't have a good quality to live, there's kid dying of hungry, etc etc. Zap2it.com should be ashamed to promote these kind of events that put the women in a very bad way and promote the Unicef and other organizations to help the poor people of third world countries like MEJICO and Venezuela, go stop making telenovelas and make a better country

Mike_thebest is an *******.
