Julia Roberts gets an offensive introduction on Letterman

julia-roberts-letterman.jpg
Julia Roberts' "Eat, Pray, Love" promotional tour is in full effect, so the actress stopped by "The Late Show" to chat up David Letterman.

The two have always had a charming rapport, so the actress felt comfortable griping about her ill-timed intro. PopEater points out that right after Roberts' name was called in the beginning of the episode, announcer Alan Kalter followed it up with some segment about varicose veins.

"Can I just log a tiny complaint?" Roberts asks. "I'm in the dressing room watching, and in the intro [Kalter says], 'And Tonight -- Julia Roberts!' And then they say, 'A problem with varicose veins?'"

Roberts seemed to brush it off, but then brought it up again when Letterman asks her about a possible sequel to "Pretty Woman." (Sidenote: really?)

"Not with these varicose veins," she answers. Hopefully not with the killer legs she has, either.

Letterman is always clueless. He sometimes doesn't even watch the movies his participants are in and asks stupid questions like asking Emma Watson if she's there promoting the 4th Potter film, when its now the 6th. Then he decided he'll show everyone a photo from a recent premiere where the wind blew her dress up and showed everyone hr underwear. I cold go on with this list forever. he just never understands his guests or asks them ridiculous questions and then gives a phony laugh. I'll say this for Leno; while he may be a backstabber, when people don't laugh he doesn't force them too, and he always seems to know just enough about somebody's movie or TV show to discuss it intelligently. he also never humiliates his guests (aside from Jay Leno Show)

Ryan, that's always been the way Letterman operates. He doesn't shamelessly pander to his guests like Leno. Letterman definitely has his favorites (like Julia), but he has never really been one to spend whole segments sucking up to the stars and their latest movie. That is what makes him an infinitely better talk show host - Letterman is about good conversation, Leno is about @$$ kissing.

Of course Julia brushed it off.She was joking and was not upset about it at all.

In which one has been talks with another....

Ohhh, suck it up, Julie! Those 'veins' go just nicely with those 'hairy' armpit of yours!!! lol...

It was a joke. Can't people joke anymore? Kalel72 is right; that's the way Letterman operates.

Sometimes he's insufferable, but that's his shtick.

The David Letterman show is garbage, he's running out of material.

I've been watching Letterman since 1979 or 1980, I forget which. The point is this, he, unlike Leno, could care less about most of these show biz jerkoffs whose only reason for appearing on "his show" is to sell their product. The whole Hollywood business model couldn't live without schills, which Leno and Letterman both are. They just happen to be extremely well paid for feeding the Hollywood Machine. Dave is like the hooker who won't do anal, while Leno does it without a condom. While I love David Letterman's acerbic wit, I also face facts. It's all about selling product.

letterman should die. he's old and annoying.

He has a show 'cause he's got clout. But anyone can look down & read notes, watch himself constantly in the monitor, ignore the audience, & lack social skills. Mean-spirited sarcasm meant personally is entertainment ? Telling women they ' smell ' nice ? (It's ' wearing a nice scent ') And being clueless to humiliating them ? And his staff probably just ignore it.
