Emmys 2010: 'Top Chef' dethrones 'The Amazing Race' for best reality-competition show

The streak is over: "The Amazing Race" is no longer the Emmy-approved best reality-competition show on TV.The CBS series had won the reality-competition Emmy for seven straight years -- as long as the category has existed. But on Sunday (Aug. 29), it was finally dethroned. The award went to Bravo's "Top Chef," which has been nominated for the past four years.
The seven-year streak for "The Amazing Race" was the longest ever in any series category. "Frasier" won five Emmys in a row for best comedy series in the 1990s, and "The West Wing" and "Hill Street Blues" each four consecutive best drama awards.
Other nominees in the category were "American Idol," "Dancing With the Stars" and "Project Runway."

So excited TAR finally went down. It's nice to see someone else get recognized. Not sure Top Chef was the real champion. I wish Project Runway had taken the prize. It's certainly a front runner for next year because this season has been absolutely amazing so far.
The Susan Lucci of reality competition series is over. The Amazing Race was my favorite reality competition series ever but I deserve Top Chef for ending Amazing Race seven year streak. Thank you Padma and Bravo.

I knew "Amazing Race" would have to lose someday, but I hoped it would be to something better than "Top Chef". At least it wasn't to "Survivor". Emmy or not, "TAR" is STILL the best reality show on television - and Phil Keoghan is STILL the best (and sexiest) host.
PS - pretty funny that this article is about "Top Chef" breaking the "Amazing Race" streak- yet they show a picture of Phil, instead of one of the "TC" people!
it should've been survivor all these years! It's STILL the most entertaining and greatest reality show out there. There is simply no other reality like it! Sorry haters! No show can beat the orgininal
OK, i understand that maybe they felt the need to give the award to some other show, although TAR is by far the best reality show. But come on, didn't they find anything better than Top Chef?
