Debbie Reynolds as Plum's Grandma Mazur: Yea or nay?
Stephanie Plum has found her granny.Screen legend Debbie Reynolds has been cast as Grandma Mazur in "One for the Money" opposite Katherine Heigl, reports Deadline.
In the first installment of Janet Evanovich's popular novels, Grandma Mazur is the sassy, young-at-heart and gun-shooting maternal grandmother of protagonist Stephanie Plum (Heigl), who's fallen on hard times and turned to bounty hunting.
One one hand, we're not entirely sure about the physical resemblance between the tall and skinny Grandma Mazur and the 78-year-old Oscar nominee, who's rather short and squat. Physically, Carol Burnett probably would have fit our vision better, but of course she's busy guest starring on "Glee." Well, with the casting of Heigl, it's apparent that the filmmakers aren't as married to the physical similarities to characters in the novel
On the other hand, Reynolds can play spunky and irreverent well, and if we're going with the spirit of Grandma Mazur -- who could be described as a "pistol" -- then Reynolds isn't a horrible choice.
Then again, there's always fan favorite Betty White.
Joining Heigl and Reynolds are Sherri Shepherd (Lula) Jason O'Mara (Morelli), Daniel Sunjata (Ranger), John Leguizamo (Jimmy Alpha) and Patrick Fischler (Vinnie Plum) in the "Money" cast.

Debbie Reynolds should be okay - the most important quality for Grandma Mazur is that she have spunk.
And contrary to the article, Grandma Mazur is NOT tall. She's skinny with saggy skin and looks like a soup chicken. She is not tall.
The rest of the casting looks darn good; the scariest is Heigl as Stephanie Plum. She's going to have to lose the stiff, overly rehearsed, "I have to be pretty" quality that she's developed in the last 5 or 6 years. Her older stuff is more impressive than her newer stuff.
This is seriously miscast. Maybe it's her age, but why didn't they get Debi Mazar to play Stephanie Plum? Makeup can fix the age thing, but won't be hugely necessary. Mazar is beautiful and much more appropriate for the role, IMO.
Debbie is fine as Grandma Mazur. She can definitely handle the one liners. However, Olympia Dukakis would have been a pure gem in the role.
I always thought Cloris Leachman would be a perfect Grandma Mazur.
Too pretty; too young. Has anyone connected with the movie read the stories or did they just need jobs?
Jason O'Mara as an Italian stud? Daniel Sunjata is too young to be Ranger. Debi Mazar would have been perfect for Stephanie, especially since she does the audio books. What are they thinking? Debbie Reynolds will probably be OK for Gramma Mazur but I agree that Betty White might have been better. Guess I'll still go see it.
I love the books so im gonna try and be open minded about the movie. So far some of the casts could capture the characters in the book with the help of make up and wardrobe. However i do not agree on the choices for Joe and Grandma. She is not supposed to be young. Spunky yes but not young. In all the books grandma is always describes as a old wrinkly women who has the brain of a seventeen year old. And Joe is supposed to be a hot stud. With chiseled features. Black curly hair and defined muscles. This Jason guy DOES NOT fit his description. Come on people look harder for a better Joe. You are gonna have to perform a miracle on this guy to make him look even half as good as what Joe is supposed to look.
Reynolds as Mazur -- NAY; it should be Betty White.
Shepherd as Lula -- NAY; Lula is not that glam and is WAY overweight.
Heigl as Stephanie -- only if her hair is dark and curly, and, even then, she is too pretty to be Stephanie.
Ranger -- should be Dwayne Johnson.
Where are the parents? Are they going to be left out of the film? If so, then FOR SHAME.
