'Dancing with the Stars': Jennifer Grey says 'Dirty Dancing' doesn't give her an edge
In handicapping the odds of success for Season 11's "Dancing with the Stars" troupe, "Dirty Dancing" star Jennifer Grey would appear to have an advantage, having learned to dance on camera once before. Not so, says Grey.
Zap2it met with the actress -- who's life was literally saved by joining the series -- at the casting announcement to talk about how the training for her seminal film role might not help her in the competition.
"I wasn't a dancer learning to play Baby Houseman," says Grey. "I was Baby Houseman learning to play a dancer. I was someone who'd never done any Latin dance. I'd taken jazz classes and ballet growing up in New York, so I had dance in me, and I knew I loved it, but I'd never done a dance audition."
Grey's first dance audition was for "Dirty Dancing," and it doesn't sound very technical. "I just kind of moved around and shook it, and that was how I got it," she says. "I was playing someone who didn't know what she was doing, so it was great."
She maintains that she hasn't retained any of the moves she once shared with Patrick Swayze, but when grilled during the announcement about the possibility of recreating her iconic "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" scene this season, she seemed interested.
Her and everyone else.

Regarding Jennifer Grey on Dancing with the Stars. I think that it is just great. I hope that she gets paired with Maxsim and he is a great dancer and it would be great to see them together.
I loved watching Jennifer Gray.I probably have watched Dirty Dancing 25 times. When that song came on ,I thought of Patrick Swazy and her dancing and it brought tears to my eyes.In the picture they were so caught up in the moment. I thought Derrick and Jennifer brought that moment out in their beautiful dancing.Im sure if Patrick is in heaven and looking down at her tonight he would say "well done". Keep up the good work Jen and Derrick. You can count on my vote. You're the best.
Fondly,
Louise
