Cloris Leachman vs. Betty White: It's on!
Do not ask Cloris Leachman about Betty White. At least not if you know what's good for you.Leachman, the Emmy-winningest actress in the history of the awards, co-stars in FOX's new comedy "Raising Hope," and she was asked Monday (Aug. 2) at the show's press tour session what she thinks about White's recent ubiquity.
"I'm so sick of Betty White," Leachman says of her one-time "Mary Tyler Moore" co-star, getting a huge laugh from the room. "I never liked her."
Leachman is joking (we assume), and she does note that she and White appear in a movie together later this year. "You Again," a rom-com starring Kristen Bell, is scheduled for release on Sept. 24.
After that little exchange, "Raising Hope" co-star Garret Dillahunt -- who, by the way, had moved Leachman's chair earlier when she decided she wanted to sit elsewhere -- suggests to creator Greg Garcia ("My Name Is Earl") that he should get White as a guest star.
Leachman approves: "Oh, wouldn't that be funny? I have -- she could make a souffle and I could open the oven -- that'd be funny." Confused laughs from the room. "Make her souffle go down."
"So look for that," Garcia tells us. "The souffle episode."
"Raising Hope" -- with or without Betty White and souffles -- premieres Tuesday, Sept. 21 on FOX.

I think Cloris is just jealous of all the publicity Betty has been getting. Everyone wants to work with her and she continues to make cameos in tv, film, has her calendar and now a clothing line at HoodieBuddie, which are pretty cool with built-in headphones and Betty right on the chest! She's doing everything and I think Cloris knew this comment would get a rise out of many people.
Uh, Janna, I know you're all clue-impaired, what with all the estrogen poisoning and everything. But really, you couldn't figure out she was joking?
A.) Cloris is joking, of course, about Betty getting essentially the same publicity she was getting a year or two ago when she was all the rage as a hip older actress. B.) Anyone who is familiar with the canon of classic television knows that Betty's first appearance on the Mary Tyler Moore Show was her having an affair with Cloris' character's husband, and there is a great scene in which Betty's character is making a souffle and Cloris opens the oven and slams it, ruining the souffle (and earning Cloris her first Emmy for the MTM Show).
I sure miss shows like MTM and The Bob Newhart Show. Those will always be classics.
Hmm, she is somewhere promoting her new show and says something beyond, "this is the best cast I have ever worked with". She was funny and got everybody to pay attention to her new show. FOX loves that. The funniest part is the room full of so-called television journalists, did not get her reference. **** poor reporting by the writer of the article for not pointing it out as well
I would like nothing better than to see Betty and Cloris together, what a hoot!
I love these 2 hot chicks! They are the greatest. They were also together on an episode of Malcolm in the Middle: Cloris played Lois' horrible mother Ida, who found out her dead husband led a double life, with Betty as his wife. As horrid as Ida's & Lois' lives were with him, he had a perfect, idyllic life with Betty & family. It was fantastic! Hey! maybe Betty can get a spinoff of Hot in Cleveland, with Carl Reiner, Tim Conway, Betty & Bob Newhart! That would be the best!
I'm not sure Cloris is kidding about Betty White. I believe there is a bit of jealous venting going on, disguised as humor...SHAME on You Cloris...I have always loved you...Not so sure anymore..YOU DO NOT MESS WITH "AMERICA'S SWEETHEART"...Miss Betty White...just SHAME ON YOU
