Christiane Amanpour makes her 'This Week' debut on ABC News

Former CNN correspondent Christiane Amanpour made her first appearance as the new host of ABC News' "This Week" on Sunday (Aug. 1), replacing George Stephanopoulos, who departed for "Good Morning America" in January.

The new version of the nearly 30-year-old talk show only deviated slightly from previous incarnations, opting for pre-taped interviews (with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates) during Amanpour's first broadcast. The live round-table discussion included "This Week" veterans Donna Brazile, Paul Krugman and George Will.

ABC is positioning 52-year-old, Iran-born Amanpour as a new, international perspective in the Sunday morning talk race, and she's doing her part to reinforce the message.

Amanpour opened the episode by telling the audience what she brings to the table. "Having witnessed firsthand the global challenges and opportunities that America faces every day," she says. "I'm also eager to open a window on the world and cut through those classified issues that we all confront."

For 18 years, Amanpour held the title of CNN chief international correspondent. ABC News announced her as the new "This Week" host in March.

SHe so biased and anti american she might as well work for the taliban and Al jazeera.

I wish her the worst.

Same old story no americans to get a job. Won't be watching this program anymore.

I'm glad she's the new host because Jake Tapper lobbed softball questions and brought little insight when he hosted.

I'm disappointed that the other panelists remain. George Will is an utterly predictable right wing elitist, Cokie Robets has nothing new to offer either. The guests are the same power brokers offering the same non answers they give each and every week.

Welcome, Christiane but new viewpoints are needed in the chairs that surround her.

I have seen her on CNN, this is not because she is from Iran from what I understand she has a very nice american husband. It's just I (me) don't like the way she talks, I watched today to see how it went and again I was not comfortable with her.

What a terrible choice. I guess I'm screwed on the Sunday morning news shows now. I liked George Stephanopoulos, hated the dude who replaced him, and have not watched the show since. I haven't watched Meet The Press since Tim Russert passed away, because IMO, David Gregory is a snarky host who butts in when his guests are answering questions. I guess it's Sopranos reruns for me on Sunday mornings from now on. I KNOW I will not be watching Christiane Amanpour. Once again, a terrible choice.

It is like recycling old bottles. You keep saying the same thing over and over and no one gets the message or they just do not care. Get a new panel at the roundtable. You must have all world ethnic groups represented. The U.S. is not all white. We know the opinions of George and the rest of your white panel members. Don't the rest of us live in the world? Does our opinion count for anything? You think by having a black president you would have new black panel members every week. Do You Get It?

Because of Christiane Amanpour, This Week has become unwatchable. Literally, we cannot watch it. Even the rearrangement of deck chairs is a disaster. No one's funny any more, to lighten all things serious from time to time. Even the Sunday Funnies aren't funny (she must pick them). Wouldn't it be a scream to put Georgie boy back in ... and put Ms. Amanpour on GMA? There's something about her that makes us want to run, screaming, from the room when we hear her voice. She is AWFUL. Even my husband would rather have right-wing shill Jake Tapper back as moderator. ABC now has a model of how to wreck an exceptionally good show.

Christiane Amanpour was brillant this morning -her interviews with Arab leaders was insightful-we finally have a reporter with international prestigue rather than a news celeb
