'Brothers & Sisters' spoilers: What happens during the one-year time jump

It's no secret that Season 5 of "Brothers & Sisters" doesn't pick up right after the massive car wreck that killed Robert (Rob Lowe) and injured Holly (Patricia Wettig). The premiere picks up a year later.

"I can tell you that the year has brought a lot of changes," executive producer David Marshall Grant tells Zap2it. "Obviously a year is going to do that. I think that we're taking things based on that accident, I mean that's where it all started for us in terms of where we have to go back to and I think the premiere does that."

Grant revealed to us what happens to each character in the year before the premiere and how it will affect them in Season 5:

Nora (Sally Field): She continues in the quest to get out of the house and create a life for herself that doesn't revolve around the kids. She gets a job as a florist. This season, she may also go on to host her own radio show called "Ask Mom," which is ironic since she was trying to get away from being "mom."

Kitty (Calista Flockhart): She has been going through a "crisis of identity," Grant tells us, and she's looking to reinvent herself. In the year after the crash, she has been hiding out at Ojai trying to figure out who she is other than "Kitty, the politician." There, she meets her first romantic interest post-Robert -- Jack, played by Jeremy Davidson.

Sarah (Rachel Griffiths): She is still happy with Luc, but dealing with tween-aged Paige. She's also trying to figure out what to do about the new water geyser they discovered last season at Ojai. She'll probably decide to sell the land, since she feels the money would be better to have than managing a new business. That, of course, causes some emotional conflicts for her and the family. We see a riotous family dinner coming!

Luc (Gilles Marini): Luc is still working on his art, but soon reality meets scripted when, wait for it... Luc becomes an underwear model! So, we'll be seeing billboards of a close-to-nakey Luc throughout Los Angeles this season.

Saul (Ron Rifkin): As was disclosed in the season finale, Saul is HIV positive. He's totally healthy and asymptomatic, but dealing with what that all means for him. In the new season, he'll be dealing with a new romance with "No Ordinary Family's" Stephen Collins.

This might very well be the beginning of the end for B&S. They've moved so far away from the original vision for the show that it's just no longer compelling. Storylines sound very weak -- where's the big picture stuff?

The show has always worked by having the family dynamic play off a bigger issue. Such an issue has not been revealed for this upcoming season, and I'm worrying that we won't get one. Or that it'll be weak.

I'm not so hopeful, either. I always thought Robert was a distraction, and would be glad to see Kitty go instead of Rebecca and Tommy.

I can tell you exactly what happens in the span of a year on B&S. NOTHING! Expect a cancellation if the show doesn't pick up some viewers this fall or at the minimal a move to Saturday night. And what are the chances of the writers actually putting some exciting weekly drama and cliffhangers into their script? Almost zero.

All of you are really positive for what the Season 5 will bring, I'm looking forward to a big change in the Walker family. Should give the show a shot in the arm and bring an entirely new slant to the family and the people in their lives. Change can be wonderful I like looking on the bright side of things.

I think it's exciting. Love to see the Walkers dealing with a whole new set of situations. The show needed a little shake up!

I think with all the departures (Balthazar Getty, Rob Lowe, Emily Van Camp) that this season marks the beginnings of the show's demise. The appeal to this show was the "family" dynamic, especially between the five siblings (Sarah, Kitty, Tommy, Kevin & Justin). When you break that up, you break up the most appealing aspect of this show. :(

The last episode 11/14/2010 way too much politics from Nora... I get enough politics in my REAL LIFE to listen to the left winged crap on my "favorite" TV show .
Please do not ruin this show by bringing your politics into the script we don't want to hear your opinions NORA
on politics we get enough of that on the news
STOP!!!!!! Don't ruin a good show.
