'Brothers & Sisters': Balthazar Getty says goodbye, too
An ABC spokesperson confirms to Zap2it that Balthazar Getty won't be returning for Season 5, a
s reported first by EW.
The spokesperson tells us that Getty and the producers mutually agreed on his departure and feel it's time to phase his character out as the show does its one-year time jump next season.
Getty's character, Tommy, will return to Seattle to be close to his estranged wife and daughter. Getty will not appear in the premiere episode on September 26, but his story will be wrapped up presumably in dialogue.
The ABC spokesperson says there's no guarantee Getty won't guest star later in the season as it's still being written.
Update: Getty will guest star in "Hawaii Five-0," as tweeted by showrunner, Peter Lenkov.

This must not be a very pleasant set to work on. Or it's the bad writing which is clearly being done by ex-soap opera writers. This show is painful to watch a lot of the time.
This is totally going to be the last season!
They should have gotten rid of Emily Van Camp and the lady that plays her mom a long time ago. Their characters do nothing for the show. Actually, the bad writing does nothing for the show. There's no progression from week one to week two. There's nothing enticing to keep ou wanting to watch the show from week to week, other than the incredible performances of Sally Field and a few others. They have to make Fillet Mignon out of Hamburger Helper and I feel sorry for them. Hopefully the new honcho at ABC is getting rid of this space eater and bringing in a proven powerhouse. I expect one of the big hitters like a Shonda Rhimes or Jerry Bruckheimer to get that coveted spot behind Desperate Housewives. They, know how to get audiences invested into a series.
I love this show and hope this won't be the last season, although it looks to be because of some of the cast leaving and the time jump. It does have good writing. For them to find a water vein, valuable resource, is very futuristic. I was impressed by it. If this is the last season, I enjoyed watching! I love 'Brothers & Sisters'!
The show started strong, did very well for two seasons, then it started devolving into a mish-mash of "problem-of-the-week" stories. I think the writing team has exhausted all imagination, and the show either needs new writers or it just needs to go away.
This is a show that should have been "a can't miss"...terrific cast, great time slot...but the producers and the writers destroyed the show. I won't miss Rob Lowe or his storylines or Getty's obnoxious character but the remaining characters deserve better writing and stories.
