Box office: 'Expendables' bites 'Vampires' ticket sales to rule weekend
Audiences are still game for "The Expendables," making the action flick the No. 1 movie in America for the second week in a row.The Lionsgate film starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham and Jet Li nabbed approximately $16.5 million in its second week out, beating five new films that opened this weekend, according to early estimates by Exhibitor Relations.
One of those films, a spoof on fantasy films called "Vampires Suck," came in second with $12.2 million, just ahead of "Eat Pray Love's" $12 mil.
Despite coming in lower in the Top 10, new films "Lottery Ticket," "Piranha 3D" and "The Switch" did decently considering they debuted on far fewer screens than the Top 3 films. "Lottery" averaged $5,600 per screen (ahead of "Expendables" $5,000), while the other two averaged $4,000 per screen.
Newbie "Nanny McPhee Returns," however, only averaged $2,985 per screen.

3. "Eat Pray Love" - $12 million
4. "Lottery Ticket" - $11.1 million
5. "The Other Guys" - $10.1 million
6. "Piranha 3D" - $10 million
7. "Nanny McPhee Returns" - $8.3 million
8. "The Switch" - $8.1 milllion
9. "Inception" - $7.7 million
10. "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" - $5 million
