'American Idol' report: Steven Tyler's bandmate says, 'The ink is dry' on deal

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has been a rumored new "American Idol" judge since the announced departure of Ellen DeGeneres three weeks ago. Earlier Wednesday (Aug. 18) both The Hollywood Reporter and E! reported that it is a done deal.Now Tyler's Aerosmith bandmate is saying the same thing. Bassist Tom Hamilton (pictured, left) tells the New Jersey Star-Ledger, "Steven is doing `American Idol.' The ink is dry on that ... Steven is someone who absolutely lives to be in front of an audience, and the people closest to him know how witty and entertaining he can be. I don't know if `American Idol' will be rock 'n' roll enough for him, but it is an opportunity for millions of people to see another side of Steven Tyler."
Rumors continue to fly about who might round out the judges' table with Tyler and Randy Jackson, who is supposedly the only judge staying on. Jennifer Lopez has been a popular name bandied about, but Shania Twain has also been in the mix of late. FOX has no official comment at this time.

Aerosmith is one of my favorite groups and I like Steven Tyler. So I should enjoy seeing him as a judge on "Idol". Which judge is he the replacement of though I'm wondering.
PLEASE "Idol" keep it to THREE judges, we don't need 4. Four is too many. So if Kara is staying, not getting let go, then let this be it. Don't seek another judge.
Randy, Kara and Steven. Keep it at that.
I'll agree with Steven. I love Kara as a judge, Steven Tyler will be an interesting one on the panel and Randy should stay on as well. If this is the panel they go with, then count me for another season.
I don't see Steve Tyler replacing Simon. Who, other than Carey is going to make any sense?

Randy is the most useless judge on the show. He has no opinions or advice for the contestants, just a rambling string of cliche one-liners.
I wouldn't be surprised if this is not a done deal yet. Tons of stuff get's "leaked" Just look at how much pub it's gotten him in the last few days. If it is legit, I don't think he'll be able to cut it on the show.

I won't watch for Shania and Steven. Steven replaces Paula as the loopy one? Kara did a good job. Randy is continuity. Steven is offbeat. Who will be coldly objective?
My favorite moment was Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta doing Slow Ride, a bump and grind version of the sexy song sung by an openly gay man and an underage girl. It was so campy and funny and a tour favorite. That was the best season.
