Donald Trump on 'American Idol': 'A lot of people want me to do that show'
If you were an "American Idol" contestant, would you want your critique to be, "You're fired!"?Likely not, but Donald Trump has been one of the names bandied about in the days and weeks before the FOX competition's new panel of judges is finalized. As it is, the real-estate tycoon has his hands full with the 10th season of his "Apprentice" franchise -- which NBC launches Thursday, Sept. 16 -- and an 11th edition for next spring that will be another "Celebrity Apprentice."
"I think I'd get great ratings," Trump tells Zap2it of what he considers his "Idol" potential, "and I do have an amazing understanding of music, but I do think they should go in a different direction. I've always had an aptitude for music, for whatever reason."
Steven Tyler and -- until today -- Jennifer Lopez were the "Idol" heirs apparent to the departing Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres, but Trump reasons, "Although I have this great success with 'The Apprentice,' I could do both, I guess. I really have to let 'The Apprentice' be the overriding thing, though.
"It's going to be very hard to replace Simon. He's a friend of mine and a great character. I will tell you, though, that a lot of people want me to do that show."

Well, there's a name I can picture capable of being as mean as Simon, but music expeience? I listen to lots of music myself, maybe I should try out for a judge. He wouldn't be any better choice than Ellen, and at least she was funny and better looking. Does anyone else think this is all just beginning to smell like one big attention grabbing media circus???

This guy is an ego-maniac that claims everything he touches turns into gold. Is he so full of himself most of the time. What a hack! Put him on and AI will get CXLed in a few weeks.
If the executive producers of American Idol are looking for a sure fire demise to the show then,by all means, put Trump on there. I, for one, would never watch the show again. I would love Paula to come back and Bret Michaels would be a great addition. TRUMP out!!!!
How about getting a judge that knows about singing talent for once. Geez.
