'American Idol': Daughtry looks to 'September' on 'Today'

chris-daughtry-today-320.jpgDaughtry rocked Rockefeller Plaza on the "Today" show Friday (Aug. 20), giving a performance of the band's new single "September."

In an interview with Meredith Vieira (which is part of the first clip below), ex-"American Idol" finalist Chris Daughtry says the song is one of the more personal lyrics he's written.

"It kind of just encompasses our childhood in general," he says. "I think it's something so many people can relate to, whether you come from a small town or not. ... I think it's just the overall feeling of growing up and moving on."

"September" enters the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart at No. 91 next week (it's also No. 9 on the Adult Pop Songs chart), while the album it comes from, "Leave This Town," is still on the charts more than a year after its release.

Take a listen to Daughtry's "September" performance, followed by "Leave This Town" below that. What do you think of the new single?
