'White Collar's' Tim DeKay: 'Kate is dead.'

Season 2 of "White Collar" has started on USA and Zap2it caught up with star Tim DeKay (FBI Agent Peter Burke) at the KTLA News Morning Show to get all the details of what's to come and what really went down in the Season 1 finale.

The first season ended with a plane carrying master criminal Neal's (Matt Bomer) one true love, Kate (Alexandra Daddario),  blowing up. But is Kate really dead?

"I will not skirt that issue. Kate is dead. Kate has passed away," DeKay tells us. He also jokes that the resemblance between Daddario and Tiffani Thiessen (his on-screen wife Elizabeth) was coincidental, probably because "White Collar" creator Jeff Eastin has a thing for "round-faced, beautiful brunettes."

Needless to say, Kate's death will color Neal's storylines for the majority of Season 2.

"So now Neal's agenda is to find out who killed Kate. Who blew up that plane. We have two stories going on. We have: Who blew up the plane? What's that about? And what's this music box about? Peter's story and agenda is the music box and Neal's is the plane and neither one knows they're working on it," DeKay teases.

Not that Peter and Neal are the only two characters who have a lot going on.

"The relationship between Neal and Peter is examined in an even deeper way, which is rich and exciting. Also the character of Mozzie [Willie Garson] comes into play quite a bit more, as does [Agent Diana Lancing] played by Marsha Thomason ... She is a very key player when it comes to the music box and the information inside," DeKay reveals.

In addition to the converging plane and music box storylines, DeKay also is excited about his character going undercover more this season and says that we will "possibly" see more of Garrett Fowler (Noah Emmerich) but that we'll "certainly hear of Fowler too."

At the heart of this FBI, crime-solving show, though, is the relationship between Agent Peter Burke and his ex-con-turned-consultant Neal Caffrey. They obviously respect one another, but trust is another matter.

"To me, these two like each other. They've admitted they are friends and they care about each other more than just professionally," says Tim. "But I think if both of them completely trust each other, like a love story where two people haven't gotten together in a romantic comedy series, if they completely trust each other than those two will have gotten in bed and we don't quite want that yet. We want to hold that as long as we can."

"White Collar" airs Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET on USA.
