'Twilight: Eclipse' can't beat 'New Moon's' opening day box office numbers

"Twilight: Eclipse" may have beaten "New Moon's" midnight opening numbers, with its $30 million besting "Moon's" $26.3 million. But "New Moon's" opening day record of $72.7 million stays intact, as "Eclipse" "only" brought in an estimated $68.5 million.However, "Eclipse" still had a huge opening and set two other records. "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" previously held the records for largest Wednesday gross ever at $62 million, but "Eclipse" eclipsed that by over $6 million.
Secondly, "The Dark Knight" previously held the record for the top-grossing summer day of all time at $67.2 million, which "Eclipse" also narrowly beat. "Eclipse" has now posted the second-highest single day of all time, with "New Moon" in the top spot.
"Eclipse" could still beat its predecessor for opening weekend numbers -- it all depends on how much Wednesday/Thursday burn-off affects the final Friday-Sunday numbers. Zap2it's own Rick Porter predicts "Eclipse" could top $200 million in its opening weekend.

New Moon opened on a Saturday-Eclipse opened on a Wednesday. Some people have to work on Thursday!
Eclipse Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was just pure luck that this happened. No one goes on opening night because it will be so packed. I went today and it was plenty busy. New moon didnt turn out to be at all as good as the books. Kathy has a point too.
Eclipse was stellar. Everyone who's seen it that are fans have loved it. The same cannot be said for the first two films. So, positive word of mouth should really give Eclipse some legs at the box office. I'll be seeing it again this weekend. It's my first double theater visit for any movie in the Twilight Saga. Great, great movie.
Eclipse and The Last Airbender are going to have a battle this weekend. Everything else will have a distant shot at 3rd place.
im a also a fan of the twilight saga but i think that the last airbender will make it on the top!!!!!
