'True Blood' gets Emmy nom for best drama, but what about the other categories?
Truebies, we've done it. We've been able to glamour the Emmy committee into paying attention to "True Blood" and handing the show its first major category nomination for outstanding drama series. But ... at the risk of sounding ungrateful, what about the other categories?
Doesn't it take great writing? Stellar acting? And stylish direction and cinematography to create an Emmy-nominated drama series? Where are "True Blood's" nominations in those categories?
We think the planning involved in writing "True Blood" from the first episode to the finale episode is at a whole other level. It's hard (and frankly, very few series can pull off) planting early plot hints that actually pay off. Not to mention making cold-blooded killers relatable.
And when it comes to acting, Alexander Skarsgard as Eric, Ryan Kwanten as Jason, and Nelsan Ellis as Lafayette practically change themselves into completely different people for their roles in the HBO series. Rutina Wesley had several stunning performances last season. Did not one of them deserve an acting nod?
The show's cinematography is just stellar in capturing the beauty and dark danger of the Louisiana swamps. In terms of direction, "True Blood" strives to give us shots we've never seen before. Someone is behind all that, Emmy committee!
While we're ecstatic the show is being honored in the drama category, we think the talented people who helped to place it there should have been honored, as well.

Jethro,
It was also nominated for Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series along with Mad Men, Dexter, Big Love, Friday Night Lights and The Good Wife.
I too would have liked to have seen some other nominations, but I guess we have to be happy with what we get.
Best Drama is a tough class to compete in! Three of my faves are nominated.
I just went through the list again, and I think I counted 5 nominations?
Thanks, BillFangGirl. "True Blood" has been nominated in the past (and this year) for several categories, but never in one of the "major" ones such as Outstanding Drama until this year.
Ah! Well, I didn't become a fan until about 3 episodes in to season 2, so I am unaware of awards for the first season.
