'Tron: Legacy' releases new trailer with CGI Jeff Bridges

Images and trailers from "Tron: Legacy" have been around for months now, and the 3-D film has looked suitably impressive in all of them.

In a new trailer unveiled at Comic-Con Thursday (July 22), though, the movie shows off what may be its coolest -- or maybe creepiest -- trick of all: Seamless-looking footage of Jeff Bridges as he appeared in the original "Tron" 28 years ago.

Bridges donned a performance-capture suit to do the movement for the character of Clu, a rogue program, and also appears in his current physical form as Kevin Flynn. The movie also stars Garrett Hedlund ("Troy," "Friday Night Lights") as Kevin's son Sam, who goes into the digital universe to find his missing father, and "House's" Olivia Wilde as another digital warrior.

What do you think of the new "Tron Legacy" trailer? Does seeing the younger Bridges weird you out or make you more interested to see it?

Friggin awesome

Spectacular !!! I can't wait.

They forgot to mention Bruce Boxleitnner in the article, who also makes a breif appearance in this trailer.

The de-aged Jeff Bridges didn't look authentic to be honest. You can see they still have a ways to go when it comes to perfecting the technology and making the human facial expressions look authentic rather than imperfectly programmed.

well given that it's a program simulacrum of Bridges I think it works that he's not quite human

Can't argue with you there, Kyle --but the article was touting the technological accomplishment in terms of filmmaking, and while it wasn't bad, I couldn't help but notice how it fell short.

The concept art and photography of this new TRON is pretty damn cool. No argue with that.

But the footage from the "young Jeff Bridges" LOOKS TOO FAKE! AWFUL! After seeing the previous trailer, I really start to believe that they gonna achieve the photo-realistic look, but now I'm disappointed.

I hope they can solve this. It's not a tiny unimportant aspect.

I don't understand how everyone can completely overlook the obvious...

All characters that are supposed to be playing the part of computer programs in Tron Legacy are being performed by REAL actors with REAL faces... all except Jeff Bridges. So how is this weird 'uncanny valley' effect supposed to be intentional, when all of the other characters, including Clu 2.0's henchmen, are all very human-looking?

As far as I am concerned, this strangeness is not intentional and is nothing more than early production renders that have not yet reached post-production.

Don't forget... only 2 weeks before this trailer was released, Disney spent 6 days reshooting a whole bunch of sequences and have now gotten Pixar on board after a less-than-impressive test screening of an early cut of the film. Apparently Pixar is meant to fix up all these issues before release date. Knowing Pixar, they will be hard at work until the very last couple of weeks!

I hope you're right Alex, I really hope so.

"You can see they still have a ways to go when it comes to perfecting the technology and making the human facial expressions look authentic rather than imperfectly programmed."

Nope, they've perfected the technology. The team behind this model just sucks that badly. Look up the making of Benjamin Button. Brad Pitt's head is 100% cgi for the first quarter of that movie or so.

i think it looks great. you people ***** too much and it's always the same ol' ********.

if ya give people 'green' they want 'blue' if you give people 'blue' they want 'green'...everyone is a god dam art critque (and not very good at that).

the CGI in this film is great, the production is great and i am looking forward to seeing it. i have been wondering (ever since i discovered the original film 10yrs ago) why they never made another.

just go to the movie and enjoy it for christ sake.
