'The View's' Whoopi Goldberg to critics on Mel Gibson: 'Kiss my behind'
Whoopi Goldberg is at it again on "The View" in regards to the Mel Gibson controversy. This time she isn't defending Mel, though -- she is defending herself. And while she has a right to defend whomever she wants and feel whatever she wants to feel, perhaps she shouldn't go about expressing those views while insulting the media and her fans at home.
She says:
There has been a lot of hassle ... because I had the audacity to say that I had some personal time with Mel that goes over years and years and said that I did not think of him as a racist. People lost their minds and said, "Oh, you are defending him!"
I do believe had you actually watched the show -- all of you nice bloggers out there and all the folks that sit around at home and try to figure out stuff to do -- if you had actually watched the show, you would have heard us say, and you would have heard me specifically say, 'I don't condone this. I don't think this is right. I don't think this is smart.'
But here's the piece of information I have that I don't think this is right: My experience tells me this is not a racist. Being a black woman, you'd think you'd give me a little bit of leeway to have some feel if I was around a racist. But I understand you don't get it. I understand that.
People called my office and went off on the young lady that works there. You're going to call because you think that I'm doing something wrong. And you do the same thing to this young lady that you don't even know that Mel Gibson supposedly did? Who are you? You can kiss my behind, you cowardly piece of dog mess.
While we don't think it's right that someone called her office and harassed her poor assistant, we don't agree with the way Whoopi is going about defending herself (or Mel, in past episodes of the show).
What do you think, Zappers? Watch the clip and judge for yourselves.

Whoopi didn't do anything wrong. She spoke her mind, not sticking up for Gibson's actions, but giving a personal point of view about him in the past. I don't see why everyone is taking shots at her. She shouldn't have had to defend herself on TV today, but even than she wasn't out of line.
There goes Whoopie keeping it klaassay!
you throw "WE" around a lot on this web site - do you all ALWAYS speak for each other at this shipshod website?
I think Whoopi has the right to defend someone she has known for years. I think Gibson is being set up. If the authorities get hold of the "original" recordings, they might see some signs of tampering.
A lot of vent their frustrations but that doesn't mean they're dangerous.Obviously you people have never been around black people because I have heard more racist from them.
I'd hit it.
I whole heartedly agree with Whoopi. Well not the defending Mel part. I think his actions cant be defended right now and he truly is the scum of the earth. But with that said, Whoopi had a right to express her opnion based on HER experiences with him. To be criticized for that is uncalled for. Not to mention whoever called her office and did to that young lady as "allegedly" Mel did to Oksana, is wrong on so many levels. Im glad that Whoopi stuck up for herself and for this young lady.
Didn't she also "defend" Chris Brown in her "I'm not defending him" way? He might not be a racist but he is a misogynist and that would be enough for me. Sorry, Whoopi. Love ya, but you have strange friends.
I'm with Whoopi...
I suppose Tiger's not an adulterer, either, Whoopi?
He who is without sin, cast the first stone. My there are alot of perfect people out there who NEVER do anything wrong. I certainly wouldn't want my life under a micro-scope
