The uncanny connection between 'Top Secret America' and AMC's 'Rubicon'
A little viral marketing never hurt anyone -- even if it's accidental -- and AMC's "Rubicon" seems to be getting a plug from an unlikely source: The Washington Post.
On July 19, the paper published years worth of research on post-9/11 counter-terrorism efforts, dubbed 'Top Secret America.' And, as Vulture points out, the explosive story dropped just two weeks shy of the premiere of "Rubicon," a conspiracy thriller with wildly similar themes.
"Rubicon" tails Will Travers (James Badge Dale), an analyst at a government think tank called the American Policy Institute who discovers his job combing through counter-terrorism intelligence might actually play into a complex and ambiguously evil conspiracy.
In short, a top secret America. Great timing or the work of the advertising geniuses at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce? Maybe we'll find out when the series debuts Sunday, August 1, at 8 p.m. ET. The especially curious can already stream the pilot.
