Nate Berkus announced Friday (July 30) that he had landed an exclusive interview with Elizabeth Edwards for his new talk show, "The Nate Berkus Show."

It will appear during the show's September 13 premiere week. And we happened to be talking to the man who made a name as "The Oprah Winfrey Show's" design expert when the news broke.

"I had the best time," Berkus tells Zap2it. "We sat for hours talking. We did cover a lot of stuff. She was very, very honest with me, very open. I was in her home."

Edwards has gone through several very public ordeals. She is currently fighting breast cancer. And she separated from her husband, the former U.S. senator and Democratic vice-presidential nominee, John Edwards, after he admitted to having an extramarital affair and fathering his mistress' child.

"Elizabeth has been all over the news," says Berkus. "I wanted to go down and talk to her about how she's renewing, how she's reclaiming her life and her own identity, not her identity that has been in the press, not what she's been through, what she's doing with everything she has learned to start a new chapter for her."

Berkus tell us that fans will walk away from his interview with Edwards with an admiration for her resilience.

"I have always had a strong connection to women who are defining their lives, who are declaring who they are, who are going through things and coming out on the other side," he says. "Maybe a bit bruised an tattered, but still hopeful, still inspiring. And Elizabeth is one of those people."

I thought he was a decorator... Now he is interviewing people?

Stupid !!!

I am going to change my roll of toilet paper from pulling forward to backward and schedule an interview with the President of BP, since we know he doesn't know poop...

This is why our country is going to crap. We have interior designers doing the journalism, and the journalists working in call centers because nobody reads their news anymore, so they're all getting laid off. We don't care. We don't even want news. We just want gossip and entertainment. So the politicians just do whatever they want, because there's nobody competent paying any attention.

While I like Nate, I'm 100% in agreement with Locke. This is quite a disturbing trend in America. I wish just one news network would stop taking a partisan stand and just cover THE NEWS. Quit putting spin on the stories, quit speculating. Just cover the facts.

I love Nate Berkus. Just because he's doing an interview does not mean he's being a journalist. He's a talk show host.

well, unless Nate totally sucks, of course!! Im gonna watch him..! Id watch him do just about anything! I think we all gave up on news cause we're lied to daily by the government..so we turned to dirt on celebs which everyone is apparently able to provide for us! weirdly! & then we're obsessed w/our cell phones, talking endlessly in public places, and fondling it, while staring at messages, or texting out messages,to people of no consequence, w/information about our sad little lives, that have no consequence, until we no longer see or care what reality is, as long as somebody/anybody will answer our text,im/poke/cellphone..when it dings/rings...

OBVI, you wrote exactly my first thought. oh so now the DECORATOR is a TALK SHOW HOST, yeah right. puh-lease!!!! I, for one, won't be watching....

It's all about the money and ratings. Just covering the facts is not as juicy gossip and entertainment.

Just the way things are in a sad way.

As a Designer for 37 years I have done many seminars and talked with thousands of women about design andwhat makes their house a home. If Nate sticks with what he knows best, he will have lots of people watching his show.

Jeez, is he trying to be Oprah? He must be out of design ideas if he has time for getting in touch with women defining their lives...whatevs!, how did anyone ever come up with such a terrible idea? My guess is that this will kill his career.

UNBELEIVABLE!! Oprah has lost her mind if she thinks that cute, little Nate is worldly enough to take on a TALK show. Well, that's all it is, folks. Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk. BORING!!!!! How can this guy even BEGIN to think we CARE! Nate, good buddy, stick to decorating for the rich and famous. What's wrong with THAT gig? Not enough $$$, not enough EXPOSURE?? I don't get it.
