'Spartacus: Gods of the Arena' star Marisa Ramirez: 'I'm such a prude!'
When "Mental's" Marisa Ramirez landed one of the top roles on the "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" prequel, "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena," she was surprised and grateful. "I think it's so amazing for me to come from East LA and audition for a role with an English accent and actually get the job! They were seeing people from England, South Africa, everywhere and little home girl gets it," she tells critic Jim Halterman.
Ramirez will be playing Melitta. "Melitta is a body slave to Lucretia, who is Lucy Lawless's character," she says. "I don't know what a body slave is but I'm going to find out!"
If the term "body slave" makes you think of nakedness, you're not alone. Ramirez says, "I think there's definitely going to be some [nudity] with a show like this and it'll be hard to be modest because they were naked in those times! They just were! I'm pretty sure there will be some. As to how far it will go, I mean, who knows what will happen when they get me down there! I'm such a prude!"
According to Ramirez, Melitta is married, but has "complicated relationships" with men outside her marriage. The actress will spend three months in New Zealand shooting five or six episodes of the series, which was developed to keep up the momentum of "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" while the series' star, Andy Whitfield, recovered from cancer.
Whitfield is cancer-free and expected to guest star in two episodes of the prequel.

She didn't seem much of a prude when she starred on General Hospital! Glad to see her showing up here and there and now a series- I really like her
There is something odd about this girl. I remember when she was "Gia" on General Hospital...she "identified" with her stepfather (who is hispanic) and said that she wasn't African American (despite the fact that her biological father is) and insisted that she was American Indian.
