'Love Bites': Greg Grunberg thinks show has 'the makings of a hit'
Greg Grunberg believes that if his career path is any indication, his next series should be a big hit.The "Heroes" alum stays with NBC next season for the romantic anthology "Love Bites," but when he filmed the pilot episode -- which gives him a very close encounter with guest star Jennifer Love Hewitt (playing herself) on an airplane -- it was only a one-time deal, since the network hadn't yet canceled "Heroes."
"I was not a series regular on 'Felicity' at the beginning," Grunberg tells Zap2it. "I couldn't be a regular on 'Alias' at first because I was still on 'Felicity' at the time; I just handed [Jennifer Garner] a pen in the pilot. On 'Lost,' I got blown up or the Smoke Monster ate me or whatever. With 'Heroes,' I did the pilot, then I was cut out of it, then my story changed drastically.
"It's never been a clear path for me, so 'Love Bites' has the makings of a hit show! My nickname has been Lucky Charm Grunberg. It's just one of those things where if I keep my mouth shut, I know it's all going to work out."
Grunberg will be seen first opposite Kim Raver ("Grey's Anatomy") in the fact-based Lifetime movie "Bond of Silence" Monday, Aug. 23. "Love Bites" has been pushed back from fall to a midseason start by the pregnancy of fellow star Becki Newton ("Ugly Betty"), and the new show has had its share of changes already.
Constance Zimmer ("Entourage") has been added as Grunberg's wife in place of Pamela Adlon, who remains attached to Showtime''s "Californication," and Jordana Spiro had to leave "Love Bites" due to her ongoing commitment to the TBS sitcom "My Boys."
"TBS didn't let her go to the upfronts for NBC," Grunberg says of Spiro, "but she was in New York, and we all had dinner. She's fantastic. I've gotta say that I was so bummed when we found out about [her leaving the show]. This show has been in such flux, but my career's always been that way."

He is a lucky charm. His acting needs to catch up with the hits. I often find that I really don't like his characters because I don't feel I can invest in his scenes. His scenes fall flat. I think he tries to make a connection, but I find it to be very forced. Maybe he gets too comfortable, but I just don't invest in any of his scenes.
that guy is a fat idiot.
If that show had any chance of being NBC's next big hit, the last thing NBC would have done is take it off their fall schedule. When you're desperate for hits you don't toss aside a potential hit for a washed up reality show. NBC trades in Love Bites for The Apprentice to go up against Private Practice and The Apprentice = LOSER!
I don't think Greg is a lucky charm. I think he is an amateur, and a downright arrogant one at that.
He promotes himself like he is an A-class talent, when, in my opinion, he is an arrogant hypocrite who ruins the shows that he infects with his mediocre sarcasm and shameless disrespect towards the seasoned talent in the studio.
He ruined Heroes for me. I was done before Season 1 ended, because of "Grunny". He thinks he is god's gift to Hollywood?
Greg. You promoted your iphone App while representing Heroes. You promoted your website, while representing Heroes. You promoted your 'Group Sex' movie, while representing Heroes.
It is my opinion that Greg is the dog that JJ Abrams dragged into the studios. Shame on JJ for not recognizing the fact that Grunberg is out to use any connection and any colleague, for his own personal gain.
He repeatedly exploited his connection to JJ and promoted his garbage like a car salesman.
He's a loud-mouthed, arrogant nobody, who got a break from a talented buddy.
("I'm called Lucky Charm Grunberg", says Greg). Give me a break, Greg. You are the black sheep in Hollywood, and with any luck, you will be history sooner than later. I cannot enjoy anything that you're in. You ruin it. Your acting makes me gag. I'll spare you what I really think, and simply beg the studios, to get rid of you from my TV.
Thanks.
I find Greg Grunberg to be entirely charming and I like every character he plays. I am sure he could play an evil, cheating husband who breaks the girl's heart and I would still adore him.
He also work tirelessly for the shows he is on. He doesn't just show up for work. He pumped Heroes long past the point that most of the other actors didn't seem to care anymore. He is an asset to every show he is on.
Can't wait to see this show because I love Becki Newton and I think Grunberg was an excellent addition.
