'Desperate Housewives' end date is 'in negotiation'
"Desperate Housewives" doesn't have a firm end date yet. It could in the relatively near future, though.Creator Marc Cherry says that he can see the series lasting a couple more seasons, "but I don't want to try and match 'Gunsmoke's' record."
"It's in negotiation -- that's all I can tell you," Cherry says of an end date for "Housewives." "ABC is talking to people. ... There are meetings going on with agents and stuff, but we're just kind of here doing our work."
Cherry has talked in the past about wanting to end the show after seven seasons; he later struck a deal to stay with the show through a ninth year, when his current deal with ABC Studios expires. (There have also been rumblings that the show might end after next season.)
He also says he hopes to keep the show's principal cast of Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria Parker together until the end.
"That to me is absolutely the optimum," Cherry says. "I'm aware that it's very tricky to take beloved cast members [out of a show] when the premise of the show is it's an ensemble. ... So while I'm mindful that my gals have other careers going on, and they're starting families and doing stuff like that -- that they might have other interests that might take them away -- my goal, and I'm going to work really hard, is to try to keep the core group together to the bitter end. I think that would be a lovely way to end the show."
Season 7 of "Desperate Housewives" is set to premiere on Sunday, Sept. 26.

everyone knows Marc Cherry is gay but in the past couple seasons he has used the show for propaganda.
Desperate Housewives is not suppose to be Ozzy and Harriet... it has an edge and people accept that but Cherry pushed the show into the devolution of humanity....
How many people have slept together? what percentage of people are playing gay rolls on the show? And how many of the straight characters have gone over the line....
I would have to say it is time the show ends what he did to Dana Delany's character was just awful not to mention the real life accusations that Cherry fired two actors because they wouldn't go along with destroying the fabric of their characters and careers just so Cherry could have another gay relationship presented...
The characters in question like Delany's were never gay and never showed a leaning towards it but Cherry believed he could switch it on and off like a light switch...
Well maybe Cherry can in his personal life but they have people hired as continuity advisers.. its seem Cherry doesn't believe in that.
Oh well it was his show.. and it was great until he made it personal.
is this dull ABC show still on ?? the porr sad things, they should justr put it out of its misary the sadd thing.
For once ****/Donna/Pierre...you finally said something right...see, you're making progress, however little it might be.
I have high hopes for next season. The beautiful Vanessa Williams will surely add some sparks. Because last season was arguably the weakest season yet, that may inspire Cherry and company to improve it
I agree last season was not great, but it surely was not the worst season. My favorite season is still the one introducing Katherine and Dillon to the show. I believe it was the season Nathan Fillion was on as well.
There's something grating about the way Marc Cherry goes on calling the actors on the show his 'gals'. Ugh.
That said, I do watch the show and think that Vanessa Williams can make it better next season. Personally I don't think DH needs more than 1-2 more seasons, stake a fork in Cherry, he'll be done soon.
Every year they come out with a story about 'negotiating the end'. Who cares. After it does end, ABC will probably just replace it with another crap dancing show or Kate (*itch) Gosselin special.
Ryan, I feel the best season was the third. That was the one that centered on the fantasitc Orson mystery. It also focused plenty of attention on Bree who is my favorite. Here are my season grades: S1 A S2 B+, S3 A,S4 A-, S5 B and S6 B-.
really enjoyed last season, season 5 was the weak season.
hope it stays around for a while.
loved this show since the beginning.
