Box Office: 'Inception' licks 'Salt' by $7 million
According to weekend estimates (actual numbers will be released Monday), psychological thriller "Inception" held on to its reign at the box office, bringing in $43.5 million for the weekend. Its 10-day total is now at $143.7 million. Angelina Jolie's spy thriller "Salt" came in second, but still had a respectable opening weekend take of $36.5 million, which is right where distributor Columbia Pictures thought it would be. Iit was looking like "Salt" would be closer to "Inception" in the totals -- after Friday, they were only $500,000 apart. Jolie's past two action movies, "Wanted" and "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," both opened at around $50 million.
Animated comedy "Despicable Me" starring Steve Carell was third with $24.1 million, bringing its box office earnings total to $161.7. "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" jumped from no. 5 to no. 4 after Friday, earning $9.7 million for the weekend. "Ramona and Beezus" slipped from fourth to sixth, with a weekend total of $8 million. "Toy Story 3" jumped up into the no. 5 spot with $9 million.

Nobody cares about Angelina anymore she's weird..
I am surprised Salt did that well. The critics all love Inception and give Salt a couple of stars, like a C-.
The fact is ANGELINA can open to solid numbers without any big co-stars and in a movie that is neither a sequel or based on a comic-book proves that she is a Big Box Office draw!
From the numbers its pretty crystal clear that Salt had a solid opening, but Inception continues to be the preferred flavor of the moment.
Salt's getting 55%-56% at Rotten Tomatoes at the moment, which is nearly fresh.
Well, apparently nearly 37 million dollars worth of people cared about weird Angelina Jolie.
I knew it would break $30 million easily, but that it wouldn't pass Inception, which has "The Matrix" type word-of-mouth and feel.
I saw Inception yesterday. This week, I'll make plans to see Salt.
I was expecting Salt to do well, but some friends and I saw it at a popular theatre Saturday evening and the place was empty-maybe 25 people in the audience, tops. Afterward, we went to see Inception and had to sit down on the third row (ow, my neck!).
I just surprised Salt did well, based on that (plus, it really kind of sucked).
