'American Idols Live Tour 2010' cancels, shuffles show dates: WTH is going on?

american-idol-top-10-320.jpgIs the unprecedented retooling and reshuffling madness that's going on with this summer's "American Idols Live Tour 2010" foreshadowing even more major show changes to come for Season 10 viewers?

As previously reported by Zap2it's State of the American Idol Union, host Ryan Seacrest announced -- along with this year's audition cities -- that the eligible age for contenders has been lowered to 15 years old. Additionally, fans and media watchers alike, are anxiously waiting to find out who will fill Simon Cowell's coveted vacant seat at the judges' table. A gazillion names have been rumored as possible replacements all year, and Cowell himself this week said Harry Connick Jr. should be given the job.

Well now we regretfully inform all fellow "American Idol" fanatics that some of you who've been anticipating the arrival of Season 9 winner Lee Dewyze, runner-up Crystal Bowersox and the rest of this year's Top 10 in your city may be waiting indefinitely. Reports around the web indicate that Live Nation and Ticketmaster, who are selling tickets for this year's Idol tour, have canceled and rescheduled some of the original show dates.

Our trusty "American Idol" pal MJ Santilli of mjsbigblog and USA Today Idol have managed to keep track of the insanity. (Props!) So we've pull together the latest information available, as well as reached out to the peeps producing the tour to confirm.

The following cities have tour changes so far:

  • Bridgeport, CT September 13 has been rescheduled to July 9. (via mjsbigblog)
  • Chicago, IL August 30 has been rescheduled to August 28. (via Lee Dewyze's tweet)
  • Cleveland, OH has been canceled. (via USA Today Idol)
  • Buffalo, Kansas City and Omaha shows are still listed on Live Nation's website but they come up as "no longer available". (via mjsbigblog)

Stay tuned for more details as they develop.

What's going on? It's simple, people don't want to pay money to see the Idol's this year. They were horrible.

I think people are finally understanding this is a karaoke contest and it just doesn't matter anymore. Now if FOX would realize that, everything would be a lot better.

Hey Mr. Zap2It reporter - don't you mean "eagerly awaiting" instead of "anxiously awaiting?" Unless, of course, the waiting is making your nervous.

Live entertainment has taken a major hit this year because if the economy. It isn't just the AI Tour. It sucks though!

NOBODY wants to pay to see
this crap anymore. The fact is
that concerts were cenceled
because of LOW ticket sales.
Those that were postponed are
to give more time for the tickets
to be sold, which will never happen.

And why does everyone want Harry Connick Jr to replace Simon?
How many #1 hits has this guy had?
How many musicians has HE discovered and made famous?
Seriously what does this guy know
other than being on Will and Grace
and being the single biggest reason that show started to tank.

Idol is turning into a pop culture
foot note in history. Idols
biggest legacy is ...Ryan Seacrest.

Hey Steve,
Thanks for writing in. Actually my choice of words was intentional. And I believe it's subjective. To answer your question, yes I'm personally "anxiously" awaiting because I not only cover "American Idol" but am a huge fanatic at heart. The Simon Cowell replacement choice, in my humble opinion, is what's going to either reboot, resurge, recharge the show's tenth season or has potential to completely devastate the show. I personally prefer a judge choice that will do the former. So I'd say yes as fan and viewer I have anxiety about it, but as a reporter I'm "eagerly waiting". Luckily at Zap2it we're able to express both those opinions.

I understand the move of the Bridgeport date. Katie's hometwon is close to there and a friday in the summer beats a monday in september

I'm with you Mamamduke about Harry Connick Jr.. Although I agree that he did an amazing job as mentor, I don't think he's the right person for the permanent judge's seat. "American Idol" needs to pick somebody so out of left field and unexpected but yet so perfect to completely change the dynamic of the show for the better.

And furthermore I think it would be a mistake to try to replicate Cowell in any way shape or form. He's IRREPLACEABLE in terms of what he brings to the show. They need a choice that will create a "new era of Idol" -- a positive and engaging one for viewers, but in no way representative of the past.

As much as I respect the current judges -- Randy Jackson undoubtedly possesses the musical credibility for the job, and I LOVE Ellen on her show but by end of the season was pretty disappointed with her as judge unfortunately. She started off strong during Hollywood Week but I never quite seemed to find her groove or niche on "Idol".

I agree with EW's Slezak's assessments (15 Ways to Fix Idol), as well as with Nigel Lythgoe sentiments to Zap2it: They need to just completely overhaul the entire judges panel now. Kara Dioguardi is the only one they should keep. They need to bring on two or three new judges. Fresh blood!

Harry Connick JR would be a good choice because he has musical credibility, authenticity and believability. Anyone that really knows about music knows that. The most popular choice would be Bruce Springsteen assuming he was interested or a close second choice Billy Joel. Elton John was floated around as well and I don't think he'd be half bad either.

I think some really ancient "legend" stuntcast as a judge would be a horrible replacement. Better an unknown or a rare celebrity person with the personality, entertaining ways, music chops, wit, willing to tell it like it is - and Harry Connick is about the only celeb that fits the bill.

Like it or not, for all the Simon-worshippers, by S7, Cowell had become a detraction. Phoning it in, near as lazy as Randy Jackson cliche-riddled judge. Blatantly playing favorites since S7, and giving the air of someone bored and suffering just having to lower himself to watch contestants he helped select.

"What's going on? It's simple, people don't want to pay money to see the Idol's this year. They were horrible."

No, the judges were horrible. Cowell and Kara picked 3 favorites - Crustal, Lee, BM - and worked to undermine the other 7.
Of the 7 they discredited, you had:
1. A great looking guy who was the best instrumentalist ever on Idol.
2. A teen kid that has a spectacular voice for country.
3. A beautiful Israeli-American of limited range, but like Brooke White, who excels in what she normally sings and writes about.
4. A beautiful, wierd but very likable teen contestant of amazing charisma, creativity, unpolished vocal power and range.
5. Another female teen whose confidence was undercut on Idol who has huge pipes as well and power rocks with the best teen talent.

Casey, Siobhan, Aaron, Didi, Katie are showing how much better they are on tour than what Cowell and Kara's sabotage of them on Idol made them appear.
