'American Idol': Ryan Seacrest comments on Ellen DeGeneres' exit
Zap2it confirmed yesterday that Ellen DeGeneres would not return to "American Idol." On his radio show this morning, "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest read her statement, which cites her busy schedule and reluctance to judge new talent as the reasons why she bowed out."She decided to leave herself," Seacrest says. "Obviously, you know I know her well, so I'm sad that she's not going to be on the show with us, but happy if this is what she wants to do."
Seacrest says that when he heard the news, he got in touch with DeGeneres. "I had a chance to speak to Ellen yesterday, last night actually, and we talked about what I just read and she said it's all true. That's really the reason for it. So we will miss Ellen DeGeneres, we love Ellen DeGeneres, and it's not like she needs the work, right?" he jokes.
He also chimes in on Ellen's struggle with judging the contestants instead of nurturing them. "I hate that," Seacrest says. "Because I love her, and she's so wonderful and so much fun, and I hate that she found it tough to say some of those things to the contestants, but she's so sweet. That's true. I think that she really had a difficult time being tough on them and she certainly didn't want to hurt their feelings."
Seacrest refrained from commenting on possible replacements or on Kara DioGuardi's ousting, which hasn't yet been confirmed by Fox, but he did acknowledge rumors that Nigel Lythgoe might be returning as a producer, without confirming them, of course.

I don't know that Ellen was very qualified to judge the contestants, but I know she is a big fan of AI, and did her best--it was at least worth it for some laughs to lighten the show up! I will miss her and think she should replace Ryan! That would be her perfect niche on the show.
Wish they'd fire Ryan. He was so fricken annoying last season. I hated all of his "talk show" questions and Oprah moments. Come on, Fire Him, do it!
He's such a jerk.
Are we really supposed to believe Ellen voluntarily quit American IDOL, yea right? i'm sure they asked her to quit to make it look good..that woman had NO REASON whatsoever to be there in the first place FOX knows they made a huge mistake in hiring her...she/he had nothing good to say but somehow always in agreement with Randy Jackson. If you want us to really believe that she quit AI...fine for the population of stupidity. The show would have failed --going on without Simon and with the current lackluster judges. Why can't you so called journalists report the truth? One website is worse than the other ...same goes for those 1/2 celebrity shows...idiots I say!
Steven Tyler a legend--has the creds to do the job. No so much excited about JLo. Kind of stuck it to Kara?? What are they calling Season 10, American Shake em up Idol???
Ellen decided to step down because she herself admitted she wasn't bringing the necessary improvements to the show, and I think she didn't want to bring it down either (so much negative criticism, etc.) She's a big fan of the show, and wanted to do what was best for everyone. If Ryan had as much class as Ellen, HE too would step down and turn his job over to someone else--it's not like he doesn't have enough other work too!!!!!
I love Ryan and AI would never be the same without him as the host. Shut up you all fools!.
Forgot to ask--will weekly castoffs still be on the Ellen Show? Big deal for them. Guess it's time to quit spectulating, whining and move on. No Paula, no Simon, and if contestants as dull as this years, it's X-Factor here we come.
