'American Idol' report: Courting Jessica Simpson, big news coming Monday

Could the long national nightmare of who will replace judge Simon Cowell on "American Idol" finally come to an end Monday, Aug. 2? We can only hope.A source close to the show is telling EW that Jessica Simpson has indeed been meeting with "Idol" executives, confirming a report by TMZ earlier in the day Wednesday (July 28). Justin Timberlake and Elton John's names have also been bandied about recently, but sources tell EW those meetings took places months ago.
And apparently a Simon Cowell replacement announcement be coming as soon as Monday, Aug. 2 at FOX's 2010 Television Critics Association Press Tour day.
"The network's dream scenario would be to make a splashy announcement at TCA on Monday morning," says the source close the show. "They'd be the talk of TCA, and the message to other networks would essentially be, 'Follow that!'"
What do you think, "Idol" fans? Do you like Jessica Simpson as an "Idol" judge? We think that gives the panel a Paula-like judge but does not replace the prickly Brit's brutal honesty and biting humor.

I was surprised to hear Jessica Simpson is being considered as a new Idol judge. I really hated last season (which was a first in nine years...I'm an Idol Addict!!) so this could be great....or not! We will see come January 2011!!
Uh, no. Just no. The entire Simpson family needs to just fade into oblivion.
That would be a serious let down after all this. This whole long, drawn-out BS is probably gonna backfire on them, especially if it's as anti-climatic as this. But ultimately it's not about the judges, it's about the talent, if they don't actually find more than four talented singers this year, it's over.
Jessica Simpson? Um, no thanks. I really don't see why they insist on keeping the 4 judge format, they should return to 3... thus no slot to fill in Simon's place. Not unless they're getting rid of Randy, Kara or Ellen.
But if they MUST... I like the popular rumor of Harry Connick Jr. (him or Bret Michaels, though Bret is supposedly out of the running).

If they are seriously thinking of replacing Simon with her, AND keeping the other 3 idiots. This will be the worst season yet. Yes, even worse than this season. The only way to do it is to replace all of them.

Having Jess would be very entertaining. She is funny, talented, and beautiful inside and out, and with the competition boring, she could be our muse!
