'American Idol': Nigel Lythgoe officially back as executive producer
Nigel Lythgoe told Zap2it back in April that he'd completely overhaul the "American Idol" judges' panel if he came back as executive producer -- and it looks like he's getting his wish. TMZ is reporting that Lythgoe is officially back as an EP and rumors have been flying that Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and R&B star Jennifer Lopez are in as the new "Idol" judges, alongside dawg Randy Jackson.
Simon Cowell left the show to work on his U.S. version of "The X Factor," while Ellen DeGeneres has departed "Idol" because it was not a good fit. No official announcement has been made regarding Kara DioGuardi, but all the reports are saying her contract was not renewed.
FOX is expected to make all the official proclamations regarding Season 10 of "American Idol" at their Summer Press Tour event Monday, Aug. 2. FOX has no official comment at this time.

Thank you so much Nigel! You're the man! You finally got rid of that douchebag Kara once and for all! What a hack she is and she was just one of many reasons why that show was tanking last year.
the judge panel should have been,
babyface, shania and david foster..2 singers and 3songwriters. babyface is honest yet gentle shania is a sweetheart and shes nice to look at, and david foster will tell you like it is he wont hold back..And voila we got a panel...j.lo and tyler..oh please i wont watch!
I hope Nigel will still find time to devote to SYTYCD. It's become a far better show than AI, and would hate to see it suffer. I hope he can make some BIG positive changes to Idol--like limiting votes per household, get rid of Ryan, etc, etc. It would be nice for a total makeover-someone said rotating judges per year to help curb the blatant favoritism shown to some non-talented contenders. Sounds like a great plan and would add a more unpredictable element to the show to have different opnions and viewpoints each year. With so many names being thrown into the hat and 99% of viewers thinking Simon can't be replaced at all--why not give us a few years of various judges and see which ones are a good fit. That's probably how it will turn out anyway since nobody really knows how the show will survive without Simon yet.
Cara is needed on the show...she was consistently accurate about the contestants
I really liked Kara. She does know what its about and can articulate better than any of them.
